This thread is for plug related questions. Here is mine!!


What would be causing the plugs in my .12 engine to be pushed up and in, as if someone had taken a small allen wrench and pushed the coil up? Also looks as if small ball of metal (thrust bearing sized) is melted to the coil. The motor never gets above 240 degrees and smokes nicely on initial throtle. It runs for two minutes perfectly and then poof, the plug self destructs. All types of plug are affected, MC-59, O'Donnel 77, O.S.8...etc. Any ideas??

May be the motor is over compressed, check your headshims

This happened to me also. I found that my engines cylinder had too much fuel in it and my heat adjustable ignitor was a little too high. When the engine was flooded and I put the ignitor on to start the engine would continue to turn over but not start check the plug and it was blown- looked like a small ball on the end of the plug.

Make sure your engine is not getting too much gas and your ignitor has enough heat - not too much.

ps - I went through 5 plugs before I figured this out. got the engine running again and adjusted my needle settings.

I agree with ah10, too much compression! What percent fuel are you runing? Most engines come pre shimed for up to 25% nitro, if you are runing 30% put in a 0.10 mm shim and try again. If you are runing 30% go to a warm plug not hot, especially if you have a long straight ( over 180ft).

I would probably helpfull on it too. I am little bit familiar with that mill.
There is no break in procedure in normal understanding of that word. you will just need to run on starter box one tank 30% open throtlle very reach ( 190 F) and then one tanks low reach around the track and it is ready to go.
At list I use this procedure when I got mines.

You should check the bushings in the rod.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm going to pull the motor apart today. I'll check the bushings first and then the shim hight and then use it as a paper weight!!
