I hope you didnt polish the side of the piston, otherwise you just killed your engine. I do not recommend to remove the carbon buildup on the top of the piston, unless its completely black. If it is, I just remove it so next time I run it I can see how it ran.

does motors performance depend on piston colour, brown or golden or black...? I dont think so.
