Sleeve Removal Tools???????
I am having a problem with trying to get a sleeve out of a Force .21 motor. Are there any tips or tools for this as i am wrecking the internals trying to get it out, i'm not too worried though as i just want to pull it apart to try and get to understand in depth how these things actually work as i want to start learning how to mod motors.

Another fairly easy method is to lower the piston to the bottom. Slide a zip tied in through the exhaust port and then turn the flywheel over. When the piston comes up it will hit the zip tie which will push the sleeve up and out of the case.

I use the rubber handle end of the pliers and simply just push it out from underneath...works every time.

I was told to do it that way aswell but it just keeps snapping them clean off. I will give the heat trick a go and see what happens

I have only had one sleeve that was too stuck for the zip tie, but all I had to do was to double up the zip tie and then it pushed the sleeve out.
Try heating it..... nothing to lose. |
A zip-ti can snap off with a stock cilinder. In that case you can use the tip of a towel.

If the sleeve is so tight that the piston cuts the zip tie, maybe it's too tight and you risk damaging the piston, sleeve or rod by trying anything that's going to hold up better. I would suggest heat - if that doesn't work, it might be time to save for a new, better engine.

As my original post says the motor is nothing more than scrap metal. I just wanted to take it apart to try and get a better understanding of motors.:rolleyes:
You wont beleive it i just heated it up and it still snapped a doubled over cable tie a popsicle stick and it ripped the edge off one of my pit towels. I'm almost ready to just get the dremmel and cut the case in half:lol: but i dont really want to if i can help it. |
since you're not really worried about the engine. Why not just use an old screwdriver in the same method as the zipties or popsicle sticks?

try dumping it into oil, let the sengine sit in it with the sleeve little up for days... then retry... maybe it'll help but just luck..!

I always use a plastic BiC pen and push on the sleeve upwards through the crankcase. I've taken apart a few crusty motors like this. Also, try soaking it with some PB Blaster for a few minutes.
