NitroKB.com: .12 Engine Knowledge Base

NitroKB.com: .12 Engine Knowledge Base
http://www.nitrokb.com/engines/

I'm slowly, but surely putting a .12 Engine Knowledge Base together. It is primarily for on-road engines, but a lot of information should be applicable to other engines as well. The purpose of the site is to help people make an informed decision when buying an engine and to get the best performance out of the engines they have.

If you find any links, articles, reading material or products relating to .12 on-road engines that may be of interest, please post them in this thread, so that I can include the info at the Web site and we can share/discuss it. That goes for corrections as well.

Thanks for your support. :)

Check Xtreme rc mag, they did a back to back test (stock vs. tnt mod) about a year ago or so. Contact Derek for info.

I might be able to get the dyno info from him, but I am still busy settling in my new home at the moment so I wont be able to get to it for a week or two.

We only have organized racing for 1/10th nitro here in Hawaii, so I don't have any experience running other sized engines. I know that some of the information is applicable to other engines, but for now, I'm trying to keep the Web site's focus on 1/10th. If 1/8th ever starts up, I'll probably expand the site for that scale as well.

I'm trying to put together a list of "Best" .12 engine from each manufacturer. Feel free to make any comments or corrections to the list. I know Novarossi is a tough one, because they make so many engines , but I had to start somewhere.

Axial: .12RR Spec 1
GRP: Ninja MR12 T01A
JP Racing: FX T-03MT
LRP: .12R Spec 3
MaxPower: MX 12 MAX SL3
Mega: MF12 3P MasMo II
Novarossi: Plus 12-3SCT
OFNA: JLR .12 Red-Dot Picco
OS Engines: 12TZ (P) T3 Speed Tuned
Palmaris Racing: PR12
Peak Racing: Diablo CRF REV .12
Picco: P1-R EVO 3
RB Products/Concept: .12 Speedline Matrix
Sirio: S12 T3 I STI
STS: D3R IFMAR
Team Orion: WASP Rev CRF .12
Trinity: .12 Touring Draked

BTW.. If I'm missing any engine manufacturers, please let me know. Also, I know that some of these are Picco-based - and that the Diablo and WASP are the same engine. ;)

Thanks! :)

jeff1 04-13-2007 07:01 PM

You missed IDM engines. I don't know IDM site, I think the modded P1-R .12 RE Turbo is the fastest engine
Keep good job, it will help people decide which engine to get :)
see you

Hmm, mega has two branches of motors, dunno if you want to include that but there is:

MEGA ZX
MEGA MF

MF would be their novarossi line of motors
ZX is their picco based stuff

Sooooo, the "best" MF engine would be: Mega MF12 3P MasMo Cera IFMAR
and the "best" ZX line engine would have to be: Mega ZX12 DSII Legal Race

But its up to you if you want to make Mega all just one line.

Thanks for letting me know about the Cera IFMAR. I didn't realize that it just came out. ;)

Quite honestly, I really didn't think of breaking it down into engine lines. I was thinking more along the lines of, "If you had to choose an engine between brands, what would your best choices be from each manufacturer." That might be too narrow of a focus, as each line within each brand brings something to the table - but it seems to me, that people primarily own or use only one engine and don't choose an engine for a particular track or operating conditions (i.e. temp/humidity) - but that's just my impression.

Based on performance, why would you choose the ZX over the MF?

In the Novarossi line, why would someone choose a PLUS12-3SCT over an N12LS3 or the new 353?

What do you think? Perhaps "second choice" or "alternate choice" might be appropriate - but I would have to think about it.

rmdhawaii 04-21-2007 06:32 AM

Okay Nigel. I'm starting to warm up to your idea. ;)

Artificial-I 04-21-2007 10:05 AM

STS best 3 port motor is the D12X (3 port) , the D3R is the most common and best bang for the buck from the STS line.

The 5 port motor D12X comes in a 5+2 port format. The D5R is the 5 port version D3R.

With the new JLR motor it makes budget on-road motors like the STS pretty pointless. Especially since they come no where near the performance and or quality of the JLR.
