Default Which engine for my buggy? Decisions, decisions

I have been running the Pro 28 that came with my RC8RS RTR this year for racing. It's my first season ever of racing, I was just getting my feet wet. I only made it to the track a handful of times to race, and a bunch of time practicing. I am ready to get a better engine though. I can't spend a butt load of money, but here is what what I have narrowed it down to. Werks B5 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXZNS3&P=7, Werks B6 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXAATE&P=7, Reedy 121VR http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXWZA1&P=7, or the Novarossi P5XLT http://bonesmotorsports.com/store/in...&products_id=3. Opinions please. I'll take suggestions on other motors with comparable price.

Werks and Novarossi both have good customer service, if you are going to order a Novarossi I would order it through Hustons Engine service so that you can get great customer service and support. I have seen a few p5 Nova's run and they do great and have a great life span if treated properly and maintained as they need to be. I have no personal experience of the reedy or the Werks engines but from what I have read on this site Werks are also good engines with good customer service.

If I get the Nova, I will get it from Bones Motorsports. One of the regulars at the track owns Bones Motorsports. Most guys run Novas from him. Can't beat trackside customer service. haha.

Can't beat a full monty either

Understandable if you buy it from him as he is very close but when it comes to modding engines I have seen tons of happy customers from Huston Engine Service, enough so that I have decided not to run Orion engines anymore and order all my future mills from him

all those engines are pretty decent and capable of meeting your needs........ What really matters is the user behind the engine....If you can buy local and have hands on help tuning and setting up the engine then it is a no brainer.....

Default Yep

If you are on a budget or not a p5 is the ticket. Houstons engine service (Monty) will replace the front bearing with the good one, it's around 30 bucks extra but will be worth it for sure, and pick up some extra Nova plugs too. If you want extra spice get the ceramic bearing replacement in addition to the front bearing, they will last forever if you keep em clean, a little more and the silicone filled crank option is the next upgrade, then the Houston tune will make it the perfect engine of all time in my opinion. Mild to wild options. I really like the crankwork Monty does on the Houston tune...

I'm a huge fan of the Alpha Plus Z852 (Green Head) in a Buggy....and not just because I'm sponsored by an Alpha Dealer! Been running Alpha for a few years now....only been sponsored a few months ;-) Hard to beat for the money really.....

I'm with Maximo on this one, if you are able to support your local dealer and get track side help I would go that route.

Also I see he carries Fusion X engines. I just got the Fusion X3L Extreme from Houston's Engine Service and I must say its a nice piece. I had been running the Nova BTT but the X3L in my opinion is much smoother, and has better top end than the BTT.

The cost of the Fusion X3L is comparable to what you are looking to spend.

The Werks Engines are great mills... I personally love my Reedy 121VR and you can not go wrong with the engine as well... If you going to need help then purchae locally.

Bones provides great service and is always willing to help so you can not go wrong with purchasing a Nova or Fusion from him.

Run his fuel as well... I personally think it is as good or better than anything else on the market and I have ran a lot of them.

I have been running Bones Brew. I have never had trouble. I buy from Chad Stewart. I live just a few blocks from hia hobby shop. He is going to call Bones for me to see when he could get an engine up here. I plan on coming back down to RCR in a few week so i would like to pull the cash together before then.

When you have people that sell locally and give you a fair price its always best to buy locally. I miss my lhs. They had everything i ever needed in stock but people quit supporting them so now they are gone.
