I have run a Go rod in a v-spec and ran perferct. Also have run one in a nova n21r and a reedy. All ran good with no problems

Runtime

I took a little time to swap restrictors and test for runtime, and was really surprised. I've run this motor every weekend since about the end of November or mid December so it's totally worn in. I'm running a GXII/2072/2needle carb in a Losi buggy with Losi clutch, 2 alum/green and 2 composite/black, steel flywheel, on a really large, fast track. I've heard some people talk about going to a larger restrictor and getting better runtimes on a big track, so I pulled the 6.5 and dropped in the 8mm venturi, switched from Byrons to Nitrotane, and was able to baaaaarely make the 10min pit stop for the first time. Previously I was dry at about 9minutes, maybe 845. I did not hesitate to push the loud button down the back straight or whenever I needed, no nursing it around the track to mess with my test, just going for broke. The tires and clutch were a bit worn and I could have leaned it out some more on top, so I'm optimistic I could make it a reliable 1-pit plan. More time will tell, but I'm really glad I took the time to tinker with this, it's like getting a new motor without spending a dime.

Nitrotane has a reputation for longer runtimes so I'm not sure which made the bigger difference, but man that thing is an absolute missile with the 8mm restrictor. It was plenty fast with the 6.5, but the 8mm required a whole different throttle position so I didn't overshoot jumps, and I chewed up a lot of traffic on the back straight. Won the club race, which is always cool. Next week is the final round of the KBRL series, we'll see how it finishes.

hey guys...i finally broke a mounting tab on my gxii that has ALOT of miles on her:cry:...i just ordered a new p/s/r kit for it, a couple of days ago and then this happens:flaming::lol:...oh well...i have an old gx5r case..i should be able to just swap cases right?...im pretty sure i can, but i thought i would ask to get a for sure answer.

Yeah bro... It'll work. I still have a gx5r that I put the GXII PSR in.

AZTman 07-29-2012 11:08 AM

KBRL series finals were fantastic. Finished 4th in truck with the GX5r I bought in Feb 2011, ended up 3rd in points overall. Finished 1st in open buggy with the GXII I've had since about December 2011, ended up 2nd in points overall.

I stripped out a clutch shoe screw on the steel flywheel and had to run an aluminum one for the buggy main, so I didn't shoot for the 10minute pit. That flywheel makes a huge difference, going from about 10minutes runtime last week to about 8min30. The weather was also very different so it's not exactly apples to apples. It was crazy fast all day, needing only a small change on the LSN before the main.

I noticed Amain added the G5T to stock. Does it really live up to the old GX5R?

thanks guys

In a word YES.:)
I ran mine last weekend for the first time.
It has a heaps of punch and doesn`t lack anything on the top either.
This is an excellent motor for the $$.
Run in was easy, the pinch is a lot less than the old GX5R, I got a race tune on after 8 tanks.
In fact I like it better than my GXII`s.

grizz1 08-02-2012 12:00 AM

Hey Ben, glad your liking that new G5T :)

The G5T is a wicked motor all around for the price. They also look really swift with the GXII head and finned button on the grey crankcase ;).

If you want one of these little honeys you will need to be quick though.
As of a couple of weeks ago GO are not making them anymore. Management changes at GO have seen the G5T dropped from the line up.
I think A-Main and us got the last batch. Wish I had ordered more now :flaming:

Worth grabbing one and keeping it as a spare or back up. They are totally competitive. Like Ben said, lots of punch and very smooth. Plus they take all the GX model spares - bearings, 21-0600 rod, carb, etc etc.

there is a 0.5 mm difference in the sleeve chamber between the GX 5 R and the GXII case. your old PRS set from the 5R will sit lower into the case on a GXII so if you put it in and wonder why its so tight or the pistom hits the head button ,, thats why . just make sure its shimmed correctly and you may be fine.

my advise is to get an original 5R case

cheers M

Hello hello hello any one here lol jk. Hope someone can help. I'm in a bit of a crunch here and can't pin point the issue. Ok here is the Quick run down. new out of the box Go with Go pipe broke in with idling, figure eights then slow runs half throttle around the track keeping temps at 220 with quick full throttle down the straight. That's my break in method. 1/2 gal felt good, 2/3 gal motor was awesome even ran rich with tons of smoke and now at 1 gal I get flame outs. I know what to look for when flame outs happen. Plugs, leaks, sucked dirt ect... All is well. Things that changed from 2/3 gal from 1 gal are new fresh buggy(mugen us spec), Go pipe got sold during time off to a friend, went back to stock settings and plug brand being changed. Broke it in with 97t. I run os motors so when that 97t died I put a p3 which was in my stock but it didn't last at all and not sure why. Went back to 97t and flame outs are less but still flaming. I used the stock setting from the info given a pages back because I couldn't figure why it was flamming with the p3. I have the 2 needle carb so I did flush and flush and tune from there. Bottom as good power but you can hear the clearing out while throttling with tons of smoke. If I go any leaner on the bottom then it bogs. I spend last practice tuning it myself then asking for help from pros. I feel top is great, bottom has good power but motor has tons of smoke as if I'm breaking it in. And for the flame outs, they just happen. One min it can be upside down and still run, the nxt it only takes a few secs then it's out. Even with fuel. I can go a few laps with no issues then come in to pit and it dies when refueling even with fuel left. From new to 2/3 gallons the motor never never never flammed not even while on my lid for a few secs. Where should I start or what should I do? I loved it new but now I'm too scared to even club race it let alone dare use it for a trophy race.
Thanks
