Truggy Motors
Hello readers from r/c tech,
I race a hotbodies d8t truggy and need a new motor for the outdoor season and it seems as if we all have an issue on hand. We cant decide to buy a .21, .23 or a .24 or even a .28. you can't seem to find the lowend on a .21 nor can you find the run time on a .28 that a .21 has. I'm looking for that perfect balance of performance and run time. Shoot me some ideas of the best motor out there that isn't 300 dollars. thanks, for reading and have a happy holiday!! |
Werks B5, ninja, alpha orange, there are others also. Werks and alpha are under $300.

Reedy
I run the reedy .21 Awesome motor On a rc8t But all in all its what you like I think they are all good motors I think good luck

The best truggy engine i've run is a Clockworks B5. It is however $300. It's the best of both worlds, mileage and performance. Quality and longevity are top notch.

Werks B5 with a 2013 pipe. All the power you would ever need on any track:nod:

My son ran an orange head alpha in his d8t & it had plenty . The works b5 is a good truggy engine also .

The orange head (z852) is a damn good truggy mill.7 port with mid range port timing. They do make a 7 port with a high rpm powerband, which is the green head (z862), you can pick them up for around $220 or so.
There is a guy on rctech (22 racer) who does engine modding, his company is TQ mode. He's a alpha dealer, and his son won the J Concepts nationals on Omaha with a stock green head alpha by over a lap. Pm me and I can give u his contact info. |
js .23 hellfire great power and runtime
|
the guys are right works does an awesome job and it will run at the front of the pack But as some good friends have told me on the tech forum and I found out myself a moded motor can hurt a racer just starting out like I said I think the motor thing is all about you good luck
|
Lol. Here we go again. Werks vs GO guy round 400000000. Ding ding...

If you want best of both worlds, then I would suggest the EB Mods JS .23 Hellfire engine. The runtime of a .21 with the bottom end punch of something closer to a .28. You want controllable power not a total screaming power house with power that comes on like a light switch.

In my opinion anything larger than a .21 is pointless in truggy, run times go to hell and youll eat clutch shoes and bearings. I could understand it if a .21 coulnd't get it done but you would be just fine with a stock werks b5 and 2013 pipe, all the power/runtime you'll need and the longevity to back it up and less than $300 delivered.
