Questions?? Newbie looking for a .28

Hello fellas, Im back into rc cars after 15 years or so. Wow, things sure have changed. I raced Losi 1/10 electric back in the day. About when i got out, a 2400mah nimh was tops...

Im looking for a .28 for a 1/8 buggy. I have my eyes on the Losi 454, but before i pull the trigger, anyone have any suggestions in a similar price range?

Thanks in advance!

You should put this in the engine forum... BUT:

1) Why a .28 in a buggy? It isn't class legal for racing, and honestly the low end torque of a .28 doesn't suit a buggy at all. Any decent .21 will be much better for you.

2) If you absolutely MUST have a .28, check out the Alpha Plus. I haven't ran the .28 personally, but the S852 (Orange head .21) absolutely RIPS in a Truggy. (It is too much power for a buggy... not just for me, but for expert drivers I know.) I'm afraid to try the .28

The little F850 5 port (Red head) is an awesome buggy motor at about half the price or just a bit more than half of anything else that makes similar power and lasts a similar amount of time.

A race .21 will blow the doors off of a .28 in any buggy. Check out a Nova P5, OS XZ or B5 and that will get you moving fast. a .28 is way too much in a buggy and you will be lucky to get 5 min on a tank, but if you have to have one then I would say the OS 28 is about as good as it gets.

Imo theres just no need for anything larger than .21 in a buggy or truggy. A properly ported .21 will be more than a handful.

I have a radical 628 on my bench. Got it when I used to run the matrix tr. It is a beast of a motor that will hang with alot of the 21s. If I remember, I could just get past the 8 minute mark, but I sucked driving back then.

I would consider the LRP z.28r. About the same price and screams...

Thank you for all the replies. I haven't ordered anything yet.

I should have elaborated on my racing situation. About 7-10 guys i work with all bought cheap 1/8 nitro buggies and built a track in one of their back yards. We are having 30 yards of dirt/clay hauled in next week to build jumps and finish it up. Nothing serious, just a bunch of bashing.

I am checking out the .21's thats probably what i will be getting.

Once again, i appreciate all the input.

if your new to nitro or just wanting a great engine for a very good price... i recommend a O'donnell Super Sport 21. its a great engine, alot of power and super easy to break in and tune and holds a tune extremely well. and costumer service just cant be beat.

Yeah just get a .21. Absolutely no need for a .28 engine. There are alot of nice engines for a good price. The Novarossi 21R is cheap and works great. The B5 for a little more at about 185 shipped is a killer engine.

If you choose to go with a .28 take a look at the Jammin 28 for 199.99 this engine is killer and its little bro the Jammin Jpx 21 is a great long lasting power house of a .21 I own a couple of each . I recommend the Jpx .21 plus for you its tough engine and power to spare .
