More bottom end on V-Spec
Hi Guys!
I would like to get some more bottom end power out of my V-Spec, it has five and a half gallons on it and Im running a JP-4 pipe (this is probably the main problem, if so please recommend a different pipe, dont really want to spend the 100$ on the OS 2050/60), Dynamite max life aluminum shoes with 1.1 springs (dont think I can get more bottom end here...). It gets very good power when on the lean side, properly tuned around 230F it gets decent top but very little bottom. I will be getting it repinched soon once I get a new Werks B5 so if that might be the problem I may leave it as is... Thanks! |
Just so you know. You can get a Losi RE-11 pipe which is the same pipe as the O.S. 2050 for $64 from amain.

Thanks guys, will try weaker springs and get a re pinch as soon as I get my new engine!
Would a Dynamite 053 better suit this engine or stick with the JP-4? Thanks for the heads up on the Losi! |
JP4 sucks on a vspec
Try your clutch set up. I run 2 black and 2 green, OR 2 green and 2 gold depending on the track. I have been running vspecs for 3 years now, I do not run ANY JP pipes as they all suck fuel AND they dont run on a nice crisp power band. I run the RE11 pipe, but my fav is the dyn 053. Im not a super pro that knows it all, but I have been running the same setup for a while, I have played with setups, pipes, fuel, ect. I dont think you need to spend that much on a pipe. Either the Losi Re10 or 11 would do just fine. |
I'm pretty sure that if your Vspec has 5 gallons though it, it probably needs a rebuild and pinch. It may be time for a new crank as well. I ran a Vspec this past summer in my MBX6T for two months. I used a Dynamite 007ht and 1.0 springs. It had tremendous bottom end and decent mid to top end power.
My vspec lost compression after 2 1/2 gallons. I had it rebuilt and pinched and it was good as new. My engine guy did say that I'd need a new crank after another gallon or so. If I were you I would have it looked over by someone who can pinch and rebuild it for you. |
You can buy a losi tuned pipe on ebay for about $20.

1.1mm springs can actually cause a little clutch slippage , could be part of the problem , a vspec after 5 gallons normally doesnt have a whole lot of compression and that can cause a weak low end also . check rod/crankpin fitment make sure it is in tolerance ,bearing condition and then send piston/sleeve set off to raya racing if it needs resizing/reconditioning , you will be very happy with rays work , very very good :nod:

I have heard all kinds of stories on vspecs.
Now from running them for the last 3 years, my engines have ALL reached 9 gallons. I have one with 11 gallons on it. (and it still fires up) Some key point I believe lead me to have such luck is: 1. Make sure the piston has been place DB after each run period. It is now a habit. 2. Tune correctly!. And most of the time, that does not require a temp gun. 3. BDC or DBC what ever you wanna call it. |

I really can't believe I'm saying this but I think your confused Monty. I think the JP-1 and 3 are low end and 2 and 4 are mid to top pipes.
JP-2 is mid to top JP-3 is bottom to top (kinda combining JP-1 and JP-2) JP-4 is smooth bottom with more top end straight off the website (i was just adding to yours, Do-Over) |
The only JP pipe worth running on a V-SPEC is the JP-3 but you will sacrifice mileage. I suggest buying a 2050 if you want to get the most out your V-SPEC. You can probably find one for $40 or $50 on ebay or in the for sale thread. The RE-11 pipe is very close to a 2050 but the RE-11 manifold is completely different from the 2050 manifold so performance is comparable but still not a 2050. Spend the extra $ and you will have more low end than you know what to do with.

I noticed nobody addressed his clutch. If you are using the standard 3 shoe set up you can try a 4 shoe (m2c, Werks, etc ) they give allot more bottom end snap to any engine

Get that JP-4 off it!! Run the re10 or 2060, easier to tune and runs better than the 2050 IMO, or has more of a tuning window, so if it's not "perfect" with the 2060 she will still perform.
If you are getting 2.5 gallons out of a vspec there is something wrong, not with the motor, 3.5 and new crank?, sounds like your engine guy wants Some $$$. Run the extra head shim with 30% and compression and power will last till 6-7 gallons, ever since I put the extra head shim when new or close to new OS motors all my motors keep good compression into 5-6 gallon mark, running them at 250 average with a 2060 30% fuel. Also if you out a speed crank in you will loose that insane bottom snap, it will still have beautiful bottom, but not stock bottom. My vspec STOCK can be a lil much at times, B5's Pshhhh....and it'll stay running :sneaky: If your looking for a new vspec crank for a good price send me a pm. Andy |
The 2041 from RMV or EB Mods is a great pipe also.
