Default tuning help

Hello, when I pull WOT and let off of it, the rpm's remain high for just a second afterwards, if that a sign that the LSN is too rich or lean? Thanks for any help...

LSN is too rich and HSN is too lean. Once you get it so it stays at high rpm then change the idle gap screw to bring the idle down.

Its a combination of the idle gap screw being too rich, the lsn being too rich to keep it idling and the hsn too lean to make up for the other 2 being too rich. Its harmful at WOT because the engine is not getting enough fuel/oil when it needs it the most.

Typically it's a sign that your LSN is too rich, but it depends on a lot of other factors. If you have the engine at idle and pinch off the fuel supply line, what does the engine do? Does it rev up instantly and then die? Does it take 2-4 seconds to rev up and die? Does it take longer than 5 seconds to rev up and die?

If you read the tuning bible, this is one of the first things that Ron Paris covers ;-) It's a great read and it stickied at the top of the forum.

Carb settings are out of balance, you will need to fatten the idle screw and lean the low speed needle. Take a look at this link http://www.rctech.net/forum/nitro-of...ing-bible.html it is some great information.

usually its the linkage not closing 100% to idle...make sure you have a gap on your throttle end stop at neutral and that your linakeg spring has enough pressure

second most common is the idle gap is too large...close down the idle gap a little

third most common is the HSH is a little lean..richen the HSn a touch

4th most common is your plug is too hot...try a cooler plug

5th most common is the pipe is too restrictive, install a better flowing pipe..

Its pretty common in preused engines. Alot of time the previous owner didn't know what he was doing when tuning it and therefore just set the needles so it would idle a long time without building up too much fuel and killing the engine. But at the same time, the top end is robbed and extra wear and tear on the engine takes place. I've been there myself and have been guilty of doing the same thing in past engines. But the tuning bible set me straight and i haven't had an issue since.

Yeah i could see that, i was assuming the linkage was not an issue, but thats the first thing to check as any other adjustments will not matter until that is addressed. Personally i use a rubber band to help the throttle close.

When all else fails reset your needles to stock and retune like you normally would. HSN 1st and then LSN and finally the idle.
