Tried a few and settled on the stock 3 shoe Mugen clutch just for convenience, the feel of it is ok but not as good as the werks was.

Not trying to hijack the werks thread, but wondering if the werks clutch tool would work with the reds and fioroni clutch. Looks as if they are same clutch. If not they are very similiar

Ok so from what I understand with the mbx7r, the mbx7 clutch bell is too long to line up with the spur so you need the shorter mbx5 clutch bell? What other clutch bells will work with the 7r?

Becareful with ghost flame outs, with allot of flex the flywheel could actually touch the brake pads and cause you to flame.. just an FYI

With the Losi bells the issue of clutch bell length can be sorted by purchasing after market engine mounts which can be turned around to give a much better fit. Not sure if Serpent have this option. The main concern with Mugen bells is they are a couple of mm less in diameter than other bells. This causes really early engagement of the shoes - so a no go. We have a lot of Mugen customers running the Werks 4 shoe using the OFNA or Reds vented clutch bells - which work a treat. |

We have found pretty much any clutch bell other than Mugen, Losi, Serpent will work with the Werks 4 shoe.

Should be a nice change from the standard 3 shoe. Almost went with the Nova buggy clutch, but I like the design of the Werks shoes better as it looks like it keeps the springs from scoring up the inside of the bell. |

Shoe life is extremely long on these clutches - your talking gallons of run time. The "large footprint" shoes are also very gentle on clutch bells. You will find the inside of the bells remain very smooth and undamaged - greatly increasing clutch bell life. Be keen to hear some feedback once you have put a gallon or so on the new clutch. |
I think the stock Durango DNX8 clutch bell inside diameter is too large for the Werks pro clutch. Can anyone confirm this? I can't get it to engage, or am I doing something wrong? Engages just fine with the stock clutch, but wont with the Werks medium clutch even at full throttle. Everything seems to be installed correctly. The clutch bell spins freely, the flywheel isn't moving on the collet. I'm sure its operator error, I'm just trying to figure it out.

I ran the werks light 34mm clutch for the first time this past weekend...also used the MBX5 clutch bell as recommended. By the 5th or 6th tank this think was incredible!. I highly doubt ill go back to the 3 shoe. Does this clutch have a break in period...just curious and what can typically be the life expentancy on one of these.

HELP
i only ran my werks clutch on 2 tanks of gas. im still new to the hobby so i have two noob questions:
1) i just built a truggy and i took the silver springs out the clutch and used the all green with all aluminum that came with the werk clutch, will this give my truggy more punch? what combination will? 2) i currently live in ny and its starting to get cold here a little bit. what type of glow plug should i be running? hot, cold, medium, ultra hot? btw the engine is a werks b5 with byrons fuel. which % fuel is good? thanks. |
Read back a couple of posts.
Shoe life is looooong. The flywheels have hardened pins, so they take quite some time to notch where the springs sit. Other than the pins getting notched over time the clutch unit is bomb proof. Tip: Run the standard gold springs (as fitted in the clutch when purchased) until the shoes have lost around half their workable width. Then change to the softer green springs. This will give you the engagement and feel of a new "out of the packet" clutch until the shoes are pretty much worn away. It all depends on track surface, gearing, truggy or buggy use etc - but we are seeing many gallons of shoe life from this product with our customers. Run the Werks clutch with the TKO "Special" Radial Thrust clutch bearings (and Speed-X bearing lube) - this is the go to set up for a super reliable and long lasting race clutch. |

Good starting set up for truggy is all alloy shoes with the Gold 1.0 mm springs the clutch comes fitted with. That's a common set up. If your lacking some punch go to the stiffer silver 1.1 mm springs. Werks engines are designed and shimmed for running 30% nitro. If Byrons is your fuel of choice (or more easily available to you), and you being new to tuning etc - I would go with the 30/11 (11% oil blend). This will afford you some leeway in tuning hiccups as opposed to the 30/9 blend. With the plugs just experiment a bit. The Werks #5 hot is a pretty good general purpose plug. We run that in winter here where if gets down to around 10 to 12 deg Celsius on race days. |
