Alex, just curious, what pipe and manifold combos were Reds driver's using at the R.O.A.R nationals? LiveRC made a big deal about Adam Drake's 10min pit stops and I was wondering if Reds drivers were trying to match that by using specific pipes / manifolds?

Also, is after run oil recommended on Reds engines? I'm using Bryons 30 percent nitro w/ 9 percent oil. A friend of mine said to use Marvel Mystery Oil as after run oil and another said you don't need to use after run oil nowadays because the fuels have enough lube in them.

Drake as anyone knows is a master of run time. When he practices, this is is all he works on. He uses several techniques to achieve this, specially tuned engine, 5.5 restrictor, clutch setup, backs off on the end point of the throttle pull and driving style. (not to mention having the right tire)

Almost all competitors were having issues with run time there, combined with the wide open driving required, high heat and high humidity. Run times were all over the map. Regarding REDS drivers, most were getting between 7:30 - 9 mins. I was getting around 9 mins. I was running the 2099/S with 7.0 restrictor. I can't recall what our other drivers were running, but Cody was running a 6.0 with the 2104/XS. Me, Eddy and Cody were running Byron 30/8 fuel.

After run oil: I don't use it unless I am not going to run an engine for a while, at least 2 weeks. In general it is a good idea to do it to preserve the health of the engine just to be sure.

I ran the 6.0 restrictor, XS manifold, and 2099 pipe. I think my biggest issue with runtime was that I like to run it a little rich and this track just wouldn't allow it. Maybe I need to start turning my EPA down instead of running rich. The motor just has so much power.

Mine ( R5 + R5T-TE ) are still going strong! I have not had any issues, REDS is absolutely the best engines I have ever had :-) ..and I have had quite a few :-)

Does anyone have a close up pic of the engine case/button/head?

That just doesn't look quite right.

running awesome here in alabama .....i got a tte2 for the AMS and put the 4 gallon old r5t on back up .....ended up letting a fellow team member run the ole r5t on his truggy at the ams because his was spent ...it ran like a top for him my tte2 has 2 gallons on it now and is just awesome .....from what i understand the picco based motors will just run and run forever ......on a side note i was able to get easy peezy 10 minutes runtime at the ams ....after the first qual i put the syringe on the gas take and we calculted 11:45+ i could go .....ran the whole cmain without a pit stop and still had 5mm fuel in the tank ,,,,,,,just really have had no issue to speak of with these engines

reds clutch 1 carbon 2 aluminum all 1.1 springs ......

I think the R5T is the best bang for your buck. The R5T-TE is great if you have the money for it though.

Edit: After tearing apart a Tuned Team edition, I was very disappointed to find the same sleeve as is in the picco boost.

so is the crank and case identical also...
