ALPHA OFF ROAD ENGINES
#8026
I never run full bore intill it all compresion no metal pinch left. Allways that chance with any engine that has some metal pitch that a rod will fail. Nova, orion, os, alpha, etc

Here's a podium pic from Open Buggy as well..... I got TQ and 2nd overall after running out of fuel on the last lap. Held the lead the whole way...just needed a few more CCs of fuel! Great racing at Cape Fear last weekend for sure!
I ended up running with an Orange Head S852 and 2090 pipe all day long.
1st Brad Smith, 2nd Scott Pouliot (Me), 3rd Joseph Stikeleather

When the engine is ready and tuned, how many turns in deos the lowspeed needle get turned in aprox?
My engine is a second hand one so I did not do the "brake in" process, and I´m really fresh into the nitro world.

However all he high speed needles are pretty close to flush on the high speed needle.
So set you idle gap opening ( remove carb restrictor, look down carb and close the idle gap until ther is just barely no gap, then go in exactly 1 full turn in and the idle gap will be very close. put restrictor back in.)
Set low speed needle to flush with housing. this will be rich but you can lean the low speed needle a couple hours at a time until you get a solid idle.
This will get you in the ball park then you can start over with the high speed needle and get it fine tuned, then go back for the final low speed setting.

On my a872 the lsn is around 3.5turns from bottomed out. Hsn is aprox. 1.25 turns out from bottom.

Just go by how the engine feels, the needle settings will vary. I dont go by how many turns out from all the way in. Its bad for the needles and housing so I dont have any reference except from flush with housings.
Between different fuel, weather conditions, elevation, glow plug, pipe and the fact there all the model Alpha carbs are slighlty different its best just to use setting as a guide if you get to far out of whack.
