ALPHA OFF ROAD ENGINES
#3811
I agree. Preheat engine to 180, a few tanks on the box(at 210ish), and then some more on the street varying the rpms, and making sure that you keep heat in the engine is key. I will sometime wrap foil around the head if needed, to keep the heat in (220 is good). Let it cool, then repeat. By the 8th tank, I am already sneaking up on the tune a bit, but not full race tune. By tank 12 or so, I am almost at full race tune.
Preheating the engine until the mechanical pinch is gone, is always a good idea to reduce stress on the rod.

i have broken in mybe 30-40 alphas using a method like 808gx7r for people,
all of them have come back and said they never had to replace the rod or a bearing before 6-7 gallons which is about its life.

Still have my 1st and only alpha f850. It is now at 7 gallons and still idles forever and has killer power. No new rod, bearings, pinch nothing. All original and i have been hard on this motor. We are very impressed with Alpha. I will try the "green head" next though. Unless i get a motor deal from someone.

Since we're on the subject, Jimmy, you have a forthcoming PM.

Hi, what brand is the 2072? Alpha? Also didnt mention that after 7 gallons no rust on the crank. Torco 30% I still cant believe this motor. Either I have gotten alot better with nitro or this motor suits me 100%. I think 7 gallons is great lifetime for a motor that i race with. Always optimal It has lots of run time left too, but needs to be put away as a backup with that much time on it. Ready for a 7pt alpha now. Too bad its too cold here to run one in.

its not a go-tech pipe. go-tech no longer exist, its now go-engines co.
the pipe is called go-engines efra 2072.
its much better then the combo pipe. big story about those two pipes as they got mixed up during production.
6-7gallons is about the min on what we out of an alpha, some guys are getting up to 10-11, i have only ever got 9ish everytime.
you mean changing pistons and sleeve?
not worth the rebuild. just buy a new one.
i only stock z852s, can get others though, but with z852s, and with the 130+ i have sold i've never heard about any problems with the carbs.
can anyone run thier alpha at 200f? even after a 30min main?

Thats more like the numbers we have seen. I've broke them in cold to get them on the track within an hour and the rods still last 6+ gallons.
No, I'm talking slop in the piston wrist pin. The piston wears out in the wrist pin before the rod will go. At $80 they aren't worth rebuilding? Ok........
Yes there is a batch of new carbs out there with some issues. The old ones had undersized orings (which R/C Pro Products fixed with Alpha) now we are seeing carbs with some sticking issues, which I'm sure will be remedied very quickly.
And depending on ambient temps, nitro % being run and of course a correct tune, an Alpha will run at or under 200F.
