Team Orion Engines

I want to congratulate Team Orion and Ryan Cavalieri on YET ANOTHER major race win. Pudge was on a mission in Arizona and won the Nitro Challenge Expert Buggy final in convincing fashion. This is a testament to the quality and reliability of the Team Orion Alpha ABI CRF line of engines, running flawlessly for all of qualifying and the 45 minute A main. Great job guys.
I think you can attribute the reliability and consistent tune to the new aluminum body carburetors, they're fantastic.
The inserts for the new carbs are here: http://search.horizonhobby.com/index...ha+venturi&N=0

At NC, we ran a 5 port because it was well broken in. We will be running the new 7 port in truggy... I see all those products are in stock at Horizon, so I don't think anything is discontinued. I don't know the plans on that for sure, but right now everything is available.

does anyone know if the alpha crf 3 port piston / sleeve is the same as the alpha abi 3 port piston/ sleeve? I took a look in my 1 gallon old alpha abi and found the piston is missing a piece out of it
. the alpha abi piston/ sleeve is significantly more expensive so I'm hoping for a cheaper fix . If not I'm wondering if I could grind the chipped part of the bottom of the piston smooth and just run it?

I am using the Losi RE 10 pipe with the ABI 3 port. Would there be a major change if I switched to the Sirio 2013. Currently using GRP #5 plugs and getting 9:30 on a tank. (just started 2nd gallon).
Only issue I have is the LSN was very loose from new. I Changed the o-rings for a new set, but still have the same problem. Any ideas on how to fix it or anyone else have the same problem?

For the loose LSN, as long as it's not backing out or causing a leak then it's fine. On both my engines the LSN is really easy to turn, but I've never had problems.

Thanks Guys,
MP9er:
Why do you recommend changing the carb to the 2010 version. Is there a major difference in the performance or tuning?
Not experiencing any problems with the current carb.
I have a 2053, JP3 & GRP pipe from .21 tuned combo I have. Keen to try these as well. Not sure what each one has to offer as far as power and consumption is concerned.
Should I change the glow plug to P3?
Thanks

If you can get your hands on some Orion #5 or #6 plugs, I suggest you pick some up. Otherwise a p3 will work just fine.

i have a 3 port Orion motor with a JP-3 pipe and i have been running this thing with 30/9 byrons since about a week before the Futaba Nitro Challenge and its still has enough pinch to where i cant turn it over by hand the only thing i changed was i put a O.S. speed card on it but i couldnt be happier for the price i paid and the bang i got has to be the best motor for the $ i ran 9:30 mins in one of the mains at the Futaba race
Thanks Joe

myst38.. if your composite carb is working fine then no reason to switch it. The new aluminum body carb is just more consistent from engine to engine, but if your composite carb is tuning ok then you're fine. We had a few of the composite carbs that worked well.
dandrat.. sorry it took awhile to get this answered, but the new CRF 3 port sleeve will not work in the older engine, the top of the sleeve is taller and wider than the old one. On your engine repair, you actually need to talk to Horizon Hobby, as Kyosho America has nothing to do with Team Orion customer service any more. I would highly suggest talking to a customer service technician first before sending it in. Horizon's number is 1-800-338-4639.

I found putting my o.s. 28 carb on my alpha works 100 times better with the tune staying consistent,I just set everything flush on my extech and then tunes it in and pit it on my Orion and it was spot on and worked much better then the stock carbs. I however have not tried the updated 10 carb that u sponsored drivers have.

The new carb is available and can be found on all the new ABI CRF model engines. They seem to be out of stock, but surely they will fill these orders and become available some time soon. Here is a link to the new aluminum body carburetor: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ete-Carburetor
