Well I got my engine and it looks good, but the engine was near FULL of strait castor oil (it is clear). I attempted to start it, and it just kept hydo-locking. The carb too was full of oil.
I tore it all down (except the crank and bearings) cleaned it, assembled it using a light coating of 20/50 oil, sealed the back cover with Lucky 7, sealed the carb up, lubed the threads and o-rings in the carb, and now it is running pretty good and I have my 6 tanks thru it. My only concern is the carb settings, I am only about 3/4 a turn on the bottom and I'm out 2 turns on the top, and running about 191 deg with the head wrapped with a rag. It is severely rich, especially on bottom. Just concerned with how close I am to bottoming out the screw. Tried calling the customer support to just double check the settings (they only have the bottom end and top end settings, no mid or idle gap setings), but all you get is Hobbico. Anyone know how to get in touch with the people from Odonnell? yes steve is off today i tried to call him also.. but on your tune you are just about correct.. i am 1/2 turn out lsn and 1.5 out on the hsn from closed... yes this seems very very odd but you are correct with your settings... just lean the hsn 2-4 hours and you should be very good on tune... temps are in the 225-230 range for me... jeremy |

Always take your settings from closed. Except mid speed needle. Just dont screw with it (no pun intended)

Well I ran tanks 7 and 8, and I am only about 3 hours from closed on the LSN, and about 1.5 on the HSN, but it is running pretty stout. For a $190 engine it rips. Looking forward to the track tomorrow. Temps are stable at 210 running Sidewinder 30% Worlds Blend (the Red stuff)
I will be going to the Stryke formula after I use up this gallon. |

Got my new engine today ! Just went through the first 6 tanks . I turned the idle up a tad because of rich bottom end , it started right up after preheating & went perfect . I do believe i will be pleased with this engine . Can't wait to get it on the track Saturday . BTW if anyone is thinking of this engine tower hobbies is offering a free igniter & with the $ 25.00 discount code . That's like getting the engine for $ 150.00 , what a steal !

Can you guys Post where you live and the Temp of the air... I like to compare tunes. And I am just about ready to fine tune my engine after break in. Thanks :sweat: |
I am in MIssssssserrrrreeeee..... roughly 85 degrees with 100% humidity, heat index of 95+
|
Breeeezy break in.............
It finally quit raining so I busted out the 808 and put the pimped Odonnell engine from Steve in it. It runs perfect, idles fine, and runs smooooth as silk...
I put about 3 tanks through it, letting it rest between tanks, now it's time to go for two or three tanks without turning it off. It's hot outside so I'm taking my time. It's staying around 220 so far. really consistent temps. I'm really happy with this engine, and I really thank Steve and the team drivers for being so helpful. I might have to pick up some Od fuel to go with my engine. I like to support those who support me in return....I think it helps engines last a long time while making good power and especially preventing rust....Protecting bearings......etc.... I haven't used it in a while, I don't really know where to get it in my area..... |
