For all of you who haven't seen inside on one of these GRP engines yet, here, compare it your Ninja. I already dumped mine, so I can't tell.
http://www.smp-racing.com/index.php?...mid=32&catid=4 http://www.smp-racing.com/index.php?...mid=32&catid=3 I do think its been reworked or finessed. I do remember looking at the Ninja sleeve when I had mine. It looked rough compared to this sleeve. |

???????????????????? Ninja's don't have a expoxy'd crank. I'm not defending the GRP cause I don't even know if I'm going to buy one but there clearly not the same as a Ninja. |
hey, it maybe JUST a Ninja ........ But i like it. Needed a new motor and it fitted the bill. Came with a pipe etc in the box and i couldn't knock the price. It was easy to do the running in, tuned pretty easy although im still rich as just finished the first meet with it. It's as fast as anything else on the track and i was able to do 7min fuel stops with it rich. Didn't have any issue's with flame outs or it cutting out on me !! what more do ya want ?? I'm sure Ninja's are just the same ................

its $420 if you know how to shop, and $420 is great for a top of the line motor with the proper pipe and manifold included. The 367 set me back $450 when i got it and thats without the manifold. A OS Speed motor is $430 without a pipe, add the 2060 pipe and its $560. Also i hear theyre releasing a sport version of the motor for those that dont want to pay the extra bucks for the race version.
Have a link for us less experienced internet shoppers.... |

Does anyone know if the losi guy's are running 28's or 21's in there truggys?
|
21's they wouldn't get that fuel mileage in a .28 I don't know many pro's who use 28's
|
Couldn't agree with you more!
One particular engine we mod, I've heard guys getting 10 minutes easily. Another guy gets what I get, around 8.5 minutes. The guys that are getting 10 minutes I noticed are on-road guys that seem to be very smooth on the throttle and smooth around the track...

There's dozens of variables that play into the runtime external of the engine...driver has a ton to do with it I've got well over 10 mins on a 50+sec/lap open tracks all over the country with my Vspec...and thats at a good tune, not leaning it to meltdown. There's no 'miracle' engine, never has been, never will be. Practice tuning with a bit leaner bottom than most, a low idle and you'll find your not at WOT nearly as much as running a rich bottom / lean top like most everyone runs. |

From the picture links posted above, it appears that the new GRP engines are really the MRT Ninjas with a different head and color scheme (and a lower price!). The decals are even the same from the MRT Ninja. They should be killer engines...
I hope we can get the non MR tuned versions as well for an even better price !!! |
i just happen to have a new ninja bo1a piston and sleeve set sitting in front of me and they are identical to the grp parts! i know the mrt ninjas had the epoxy filled cranks and magnesium heads, but what else was done to these engines?

kinda funny how much run time you can squeeze out of an engine when you lean it out to 300 degrees and use a 6.5 mm carb restrictor  major runtime !!! and screamin , oh buddy !!
|
so are you paying $100 more for the crank work? or the added mag head comes on it also

I think the first Ninja sleeves didn't have any angled cut ports. I remember looking at mine when I had it apart, it it looked like just plain port cuts, no angled in cuts from the bottom. I also remember someone stating Jim at fusion said they were pretty rough cut also. Maybe the new sleeves have more work done on the ports.
|
You know what, this engine would match my new paint job, reason enough to buy it!
|
Good news, I just checked horizon and the engines are due in on the 19th of this month.:D
|
I heard that too, does that mean into horizon or into local hobby shops??
|
Unknown, I work part time at my lhs to support my addiction.
Horizon's dealer site says 3/19. It was 3/20 and when the dates were updated most stuff got pushed back to 4/9, engines went to 3/19. I will know on the 19th if my engine shows up or not. Either way I will post an update if the date changes. |
Due into horrizon the 19th not LHS
|
www.modhobby.com is supposed to have them available on the 18th I understand
|
hey, we got something first in Europe
Ran mine last weekend for the first time. Great motor and pipe (pipes soft though). TQ and the A main win so i can only say i'm impressed. Tuning was easy and it runs nice, very smooth from the bottom to top :) |
Did you buy the promo kit? If so which pipe did it come with the 2053 or the 3009?

Sweet, i ordered mine from the apex models in the UK, hopefully it will be here anytime now. What plugs are you using in it? I take it ninja, boss, falcon, grp plugs are all the same.

I've also been running the new Byrons 30% Gen2 fuel (no re-shimming of the head needed) which is working out great too. |
I'm no longer running the GRP Ninja motors so if anyone is looking for a sweet deal on Ninja (GRP) plugs, I have a 5-pack of the #5 plugs. Email me if interested at [email protected]
Best regards, |
Im trying to idle a tank through mine and it if i take the glow warmer off it just flames out :weird: It came with a #6 plug, ive tried a #7 same thing and a #5 which seemed a little better but still wont keep idling unless i have the warmer on. Too rich maybe? Im running 25% and havnt installed any of the 2 extra head shims it came with.
|
Sounds like its too rich. Thats why when you ran the the #5 it seemed better. The hotter plug will stay light with a richer mixture.
|
The GRP Ninja's came from the factory pig rich. Lean the LSN 1/2 turn in.
Best regards, |
Yep you guys are right, it took a full turn on the lsn and everything was fine :)
|
Do you guys think a JP-3 will work well with the new tuned buggy engine or just stick with the pipe in the promo kit? If anyone has experience with this please let me know, Id rather sell the GRP pipe since ive heard its prone to dents
|
Sure its prone to dents, like all aluminium pipes, but they are also approx 30 grams lighter.
|
Just about finished break in on my tuned .21 and its a very nice engine, couldnt ask for more, smooth operator
|
You're right. I did get the promo kit at a ridiculous price though and would like to keep my JP-3 on the car, do yall think it will work ok?
|
It will work, just would be less than ideal i reakon, the 3009 pipe feels so smooth, i really like it, id only use that or the 2053, besides jp3 pipe isnt race legal is it? And it would be blasphemy to use one of these grp mills for bashing
