Small cut in front bearing seal?
Is this ok? I have a small cut in the blue seal of my novarossi 17011 front bearing. no idea how it got there!
I dont have any leakage or anything. I just dont know if it could have an air leak? Could a small cut in the seal affect tune or operation? Thanks |
If it worry’s you then remove the seal then clean it really good with some rubbing alcohol then ad some high temp RTV. I’ve had to do it before for a bearing shield that kept popping off.

Just change the seal.

It is wrong to say/think the seal is airtight, that for sure it is not. The seal is only to keep the grease better in and the dust better out. Inside the engine with the groove in the crankshaft and a small channel between carburator and front bearing does give a kind of seal. |

but you could use the seal of an old bearing though

The seals aren’t airtight. They’re just there to limit the dirt inside the bearing. Leave it as is, drive it like you stole it, then replace the bearing before next season. Avidrc.com is your friend.
