I'm a newb, how do you get timing in 17. 5? I believe it is fixed on my hobbywing motor. or are you talking about mod?

Some motors have adjustable timing. If you look up pictures of the trinity D4 or Reedy Mach 3, you'll see this little number scale on the back on the motor. The hobby wing motor has a fixed timing. I have the justock combo and timing is fixed on both speed control and motor. The higher end motors allow for more customization. It also doesn't matter if it's stock or mod, motors in both categories have this feature.

So it is legal to use motor timing but not esc timing? Just trying to see my alternatives. I would think that a 17.5 motor with advanced timing could really outperform a motor with fixed timing?

Right, motor timing is ok in 17.5 buggy, but no ESC timing adjustments or boost allowed.

You will have an advantage with a motor that has timing adjustments.

Island Raceway & Hobby (IRH), Lindenhurst, NY - Indoor Off-Road Track in Long Island-20160306_225146.jpg

The irh team did a few changes tonight to spice things up for the next few weeks till the total layout change including the onetrac wall ride...anyway we added a double double in the middle with super wide lanes for side by side racing...we also cut the big jump in half so no more big air.
