Doesn't Wolcott Hobbies have an indoor track just down the road? iv'e never seen it but have been told it's a small track.
It's too far for me to drive but good luck with the track. |

We are looking forward to doing some affordable electric racing all year round and we are very intrested in supporting novice classes and a growing the hobby in general. We also plan to hold races in conjunction with RCE and LI Raceway and plan to run the ROAR regional championships as a series race between the three tracks. Thanks for the wish of luck. |
:)
|
Though it's a 2.5 hour drive, I'll make the trek a couple times this winter, especially if your doing a series with RCE and LI.
|
any more info yet? (opening date, track pics) Also, how about a location for directions. I'm in NJ and looking for some indoor off-road. Thanks
|
No pictures yet as we are still working on the building, we haven't put in the track or pit tables yet. There isn't much to see right now.

OK, I understand. Is there an eta on when you'll open?
|
We hope to be open sometime in December. A few contractors have pushed some dates back slightly, so December is being optimistic.

No, its not the Roller Magic building, they are still in business by the way, we are located a few buildings down next door to the heath center and across the street from the old Shakers car dealership.
We have 7300 sq feet, enough for only one track (barely) with a hobbyshop and pit space. Besides, RC Madness and Speedzone Hobbies already have 1/10 carpet. Having a third track probably wouldn't be very successful (Hobby Chamber closed down). There is a possibility of running some parking lot racing, but I would only really push cheaper classes such as the Speed Merchant spec cars as I think think touring car is too expensive and complicated to get a large weekly turn-out. Even for the off-road track, I'm mostly going to encourage my customers to run 10.5 brushless\Lipo 2wd buggy. I want everybody, and their friends, to be able to afford racing every week. |
track size...
How many feet long and wide will the track be ??
|
track size answer
75 ft x 45 ft.
I'll take a picture of the unfinished track tonight. |
track size..
Wow, that's a good sized indoor dirt track... I'll be checking the place out with some friends.... I'm sure we'll end up racing there. We're going through withdrawals :tire:
|
here are a few pictures of the unfinished track, notice their are no support poles in the track area!.....

Looks like a nice open setup. I'll be watching for when you open !
|
Doesn't Wolcott Hobby pretty much have the indoor offroad racing scene wrapped up in Central CT? Why did you build a track towards the New York area?

Besides, I'm not asking any of their customers to race at my place instead of Wolcott Hobbies. I have plans on getting my own customers into the hobby without trying to steal customers from other tracks.

Mark, looks like a great little sport for a track! Can't wait to come down and check out the place. I sent you an email yesterday or the day before with links to a few display cases for sale.
Let me know when you're gonna be there so I can drop by and say hey. Pete |
We just got our dirt in and I'm really happy with the quality, its right there with LIR and RCE's screened topsoil (which is premium), so that means the same tires are going to work at all three tracks. That will make racing more competitive in the region and save the racers money.
Pete, I'm pretty much down their every night after five and on weekends. I'll give you a call. Howard has been down to see the shop and he's pretty excited about how everythings going. |
Has Howard stopped working for Lester yet?
|
What classes will you be racing ? Will there be a class for 4wd buggies ? What are the popular classes ?
|
Congrats
Hey Mark contrats man... a dream come true.... looks like it's time for me to come back for a Vac.

Here is what I would like to see run. 1. Sportsman (novice w/silver can motor) – race entry fee $5.00, 5 minute qualifiers and main events, 2wd Buggy, 2wd Truck, and 4wd Buggy will run together. 2. Amateur (19 brushed/10.5 brushless) – race entry fee $10.00, 8 minute qualifiers and main events, 2wd Buggy and Truck run together, 4wd Buggy in an individual heat. 3. Expert (open modified) – race entry fee $15.00, 8 minute qualifiers and main events, 2wd Buggy, 2wd Truck and 4wd Buggy each have an individual heat. Nothing is set in stone as of yet though We are going to try keeping the track layouts for at least six months. There will be gift certificates to the racers who post the fastest official (qualifier or main event) race time and fastest individual lap for each track layout in the amateur and professional classes. Mark Mark, I know this is all tentative and all but wouldn't ya think 8 min quals and main a little too long for someone who would want to run a brushed mod motor and non lipo (nmhd) battieries. I'm thinking of heat buildup in a regular brushed mod motor would be an issue and efficency also compared to brushless. Just a thought for someone still using brushed motors, I know alot of the l.i. guy still do this. I kinda like what R/C excitment does with 5 min quals and 6 min Mains. Kind of in the middle of standard 5 min and what your thinking. Just my 2 cents. By the way looks good, track will be plenty big for electric. Can't wait . |

On a small indoor track such as ours, a wild low turn motor wouldn't be faster anyway, so I figure you should get more race time for your race entry fee since a slower motor is just as competitive. Like I mentioned, nothing is set in stone yet, thats just what I would like to see happen. |
hey matt, i would say for the 4wd guys do a few trial races with different times. or even better yet a class vote to see what times people could make, or think they could make. by the way, they still make those pesky brushed motors???
|
I think the 8 minutes would be fine. Maybe then people will use motors that are actually controlable. mark I will have to check it out when you open up. I should be down for some amatuer 10.5 buggy class and mod 4wd.
|
tom, is your brother gonna come check it out?
|
This is the whole reason I posted to get this topic in the open to discuss. We will see what happens when the racin gets going. Tom as far as you go it shouldn't matter I don't ever remember you havin a brushed motor, you love those brushless conversions anyways.:)
|
matt, u doin the mini race this weekend?
|
matt, I dont think I have even run a brushed motor in about 4years. Nihm in about 3 so runtime is not a problem for me. I also dont think runtime really should be a problem for anyone on an indoor track though.
chris, dan hasn't said anything about it but I am sure if I go he will come along with me. I also have those front arms sitting in my car if you still need them. |
yep, i still could use them. if your driving by just throw them on the deck table if u could. u sell that b.l. system yet?
|
No mini's for me this weekend. How's the inmates doing lately?
|
Just sold a vxl system, a mgm16018 esc and a peak 5.5 (haven't even shipped it out yet). I will be going by tomorrow so I will drop them off. also I will try to let you know about your t4 by the weekend (currently watching a few).
|
thanks for gettin those to me tom, and no hurry on the t4 it will take me half the winter to gettin around to even takin a pic for ebay. matt business is really good as of late, i wish i could buy stock in this business. they just never learn.... tru talk yo'
|
