front spool configuration

Hi,

I was running the front one way with a adjustable rear diff with stock pully. Changed over to front spool..the car have a sharper braking and also launches very fast out of corners...lap time was down 0.3 sec compared to a front one way. Rear diff oil is 10,000 wt (mugen), but i have i can tighten the rear diff to make more stiffer.

Found that the stiffer rear diff will help the car powers out of corner tighter. Last weekend ran the car in this configuration until the rear started sliding coz the rear tires have worn down to the rim !!!! I never true my tire...as long as the front is smaller than the rear !!!Nevertheless, the car handled perfectly.....try it !!!

Doesn't HIGH RC = Less Roll (Because the RC point is at its highest and nearest the CG of the car) and therefore appropriate for high traction/bite conditions because we do not need added traction and need the car to be more aggressive. And LOW RC = More Roll, suited for low traction/bite conditions because we need the added weight transfer to add traction which also results in the car being a little lazy?

IN essence is it correct to assume with all other parameters equal;

HIGH RC suited more for HIGH TRACTION TRACK
LOW RC suited more for LOW TRACTION TRACK

Or vis-a-versa?

Or is there more that meets the eye??

Thanks in advance.

I think it's more than meets the eye....

The pro's only mention that the "A" block lower the RC, and not WHY they lower the roll center. The one thing we need to realize is that there is more than one thing drivers are trying to accomplish. I've been on the Mugen forum, and it seems that the "A" blocks (low roll center= more roll) are used when bite is high to add some laziness to the car and to prevent traction rolling. If the car will not roll on the suspension a little, it will just traction roll if the bite is high. Swauger mentioned that the blocks will also change the shock angle slightly (A= more laid down).

Just push the "I believe" button and do what the big dog's do= high bite = Low roll center.

cheers

I've tried it. Running 30K oil in rear diff. Going up to 100K this weekend. Diff is far too loose

did you modify the fr one-way to become a spool?

I prefer the car without the belt conversion, but lightening the car is always a good idea, even when the car gets to be underweight.

It is very reliable. There is another screw on the other side under the pulley too. We use a different method though. We swapped the outdrives with the Serpent ones and just drilled the hole through the one way axle. Then used the Serpent pins to lock the outdrives.

Got a guy making me a proper solid axle to specs to try. The only difference will be the weight. Will be a whole lot lighter then the oneway modded.

Front one way

Hi,

Similar to what Campbell said about the modified serpent parts with pins through, but used a c clips to hold pin in coz i lost a pin before in the final !!!! NOt very good with three wheels
drive !!!!

I got a use mtx3, what cases the front belt to snap.

Scott Fisher 03-10-2005 07:22 PM

The front belt will wear out the fastest of the three belts..
The gearing between the front and rear wheels is not exactly the same. This slight difference causes a little more stress on the front belt. Periodically inspect the belts. Look for teeth that are missing or wearing out and replace them when you can see this. Also I would inspect the pulleys as they will eventually wear as well. When worn, they will wear the belts faster.
