A little background on my situation, I don't want to spend a ton of money, and I race a FT TC3 for electric cars. The gas car would be more for having fun in parking lots but I might want to move up to racing it. Most of the 1/10th scale onroad nitro tracks are sort of far from where I live so it won't get a ton of track use, especially considering the weather in Milwaukee. So, my criteria...

1.) Fun and fast for parking lot bashing.

2.) Easy enough to figure out for a nitro noob.

3.) Not overly expensive.

4.) Easily upgradable to be race ready.

5.) Something that handles well enough that I won't just want to get my race prepped electric car out.

6.) At first I will probably swap my steering servo and receiver back and forth between this and my electric TC, so ease in swapping those out would be nice.

7.) A quick explanation of typical classes and engine types used would be useful as well as what engine my be best for someone in my situation.

8.) If I want something nitro to mess around with more than race would I be better off with an offroad car?

Thanks,
Ike
1. shaft would be better than belt for parking lots.
2. learning curve is about the same unless you get a RTR.
3. the cars are not expensive but the engine is another 1-2 hundred. starter box is another 75-150.
4. depends on your local part support. perhaps a NTC3 since you already have a TC3 that probably means you can get associated parts locally.
5. all kits listed in the beginning of thread can be tuned to handle well.
6. forget it. get new servos. you will be taking half the car apart.
7. engine is usually .12 or .15 pull start.
8. get a monster truck.

IMO, you should definately get a shaft driven car, and if i were you i will go with the fw05s if the budget is okay for it.. Car park lots kills shaft pretty quickly unless it quite clean..

(Or you can bring a broom to the lot)

All I could say is all the cars that are out right now are capable of winning.
The best advice I could give you on choosing your car is buy a car that you could buy parts for at your local hobby shop.
Buy something that fits your driving skills.
Make sure you get a car that you could get support from the guys at your track.
Bottom line, buy something that you like.
100% agreed

to answer your Question if it hasn't been already... in nitro Touring cars, there are a few things to watch for if you will compete in a sanctioned race.

engine must be a .12 and must be 3 port.
some track prefer a normal plug, but turbo will also be ok (SOMETIMES) not here in SA.

Pull start to save cash... RTR to save more cash. then it is up to you my friend
