sup guys! My first post! woohoo!

Anyways I just got a 710 and my hobby shop told me that they will install the centax clutch for since its difficult to install and the manual doesnt give enough detail instructions. Is it really that hard to install for first timers dealing with a centax clutch?

Its not really hard to install. Its more a pain to get it set up properly for each track to bring the real benefits from it. But once you learn the best settings it really is worth the extra hassle.

But compared to setting a normal shoe clutch for a track the centax is a godsend.

If you drive on 3 different type tracks with different characteristics you could need 3 different sets of shoes for a standard clutch and these would all have to cut and shaped to get the benefits.

With the centax you simply adjust the tension on the spring and your racing.

Maybe getting more steering lock/angle will only give more slip on the front wheels and no increase in steering.

This I agree with 100%. I learned from Mark Green and James Haydn from the UK many years ago that if you feed the steering in smoothly you get better control of the car through the corner and also carry more speed while saving on tire wear.

Before that I was bolting down the straight and banging in full lock to turn the corners. They showed me that they were only movig the steering stick a small amount and getting the same results. Now this is the same way I drive. My steering stick never moves more than a few mm's unless in a really tight and slow hairpin.

bump steer simple expla

here is a simple article on ackerman and rc cars..
http://www.pbracing.com/handling/ack...principle.html

you can not change ackerman by changing the pivot point of the steering arm( up and down), you can create a bump steer effect because you took the arm out of the location were it was in sync with the movement of the suspension this is just exactly what you do when you move the front arm up and down on the rear suspension, you create a toe change due to suspension movement up and down,
same principles apply here.. there may be a posative effect but you are not changing the ackerman angles..

Start with the stock and follow it through. It's a very neutral setup. From there, tune to your liking.

The first time I ever installed a centax clutch was wasy back during the Impulse Streetspec days. It was easy because Serpent's instruction sheet was the best around that anyone could find on the Centax.

Today in the 710 manual, it is even better. Very clear and easy.

What is missing for beginners in any centax type installation instruction are the details on what bit does what and how they all work together to move your car. Last but not least, what needs or can be done if things are not 100% to your liking in terms of performance.

Hope this helps but I think you should try installing it yourself. :)

Does anyone have successfully (still able to make full radius turning) make the front track width at 199 or even 198mm? (using setting wheel 0 offset, 0deg toe in).

you measure it with mounted tires or setting wheels? Under hudy setup board to determine 198mm or caliper? Thanks for your time, I just could not get mind..
