None of the various special tools cluttering up my tool box will hold the clutch bell while tightening the pinion gears. In the past I've torqued them on tight with lock tight, so they wouldn't loosen with deceleration (other cars). So I wound up holding the bell in my hand and using the plastic gear holders to tighten them, and hope the engine will finish the job.

Just curious... The grooves look like it will hold the pinions. The pinions on the 710 and on some cars are 0.8 pitch. Do they universally cater for this? I know the R40 uses normal 1.0 pitch gearing.

Can be done. The light outdrives are longer. So you will also need to shorten the shafts so they both fit in.

Guys

I have a question, when your putting together you 2 speed and you place it on the two speed shaft is there supposed to be a lot of play between the second gear and the bearing to the left of it. I put that round spacer inbetween and its still about 1.5mm to 2mm movment between the two, that dosnt seem right, what could be wrong?

Check step 9.2
there's a shimthat goes on first-not labeled. Also check the figs in the Reference guide when things are not clear-gives additional info

The Ball Diff bearing doesn't have shields on it.

End float in the 2 speed shaft is adjusted by the positioning of the 22t pulley at the other end. Also check that the pins on the 24t pulley don't touch the bearing block.
The 2 speed shaft must have end float or else you can damage the shaft bearings, this happened on the 705 if the shaft was not setup correctly.
