Well, try 1/8 first you will understand what I feel   :sneaky:
Its like where the front go, the rear will follow.
In 710, using 46T diff with 2.5mm split I can have that feeling but not with 45T / 1mm split.
BTW, maybe you can ask "Serpent guys" to reproduce 46T diff, the ratio is right in the middle of 21T (2spd)pulley.

I had a wonderful day today with the 710, my second time running it. I am very happy with the performance and handling, managed to follow some lola bodies car on the track. Solid front axel is really fun to run. Then came the rain. Only managed to run 3 tanks. Thumbs up to serpent:D

Davo, apart from other factors like tyre diameter, engine rpm & power, clutch performance etc, the easiest way to get top end is by playing around the gears - pinions and spurs.

Generally the top end is determined by the second gear pair (this is the inner pair (pinion closest to the engine and spur closest to the rear block).

The best way to work this out is to calculate the gear ratio between these two i.e. spur divided by pinion.

For example if you used the 55 teeth spur and 23 teeth pinion, the ratio is 2.39. This means the pinion needs to make 2.39 revolution for each 1 revolution of spur. The bigger this ratio the more the pinion has to turn for each revolution of the spur.

You can generally conclude that the smaller the ratio, the more the top speed your car can go.

There is something going on here.

The border says "Lowest price" and yet its selling the 710 for the equivalent of USD 485.

Mushroom is at USD 225.

I hate to say it but perhaps mushroom is getting out of supplying Serpent stuff and clearing their stock or they know updates are coming for both the 950R and the 710 are coming. :sneaky: :D

Re: Dogbone Pin Mod

Since today is technically very much Friday on some parts of the world, here is a pic of the mod done on the dogbone pins.

http://www.3hobby.com/modules/copper...5360_small.JPG

The dogbone side that goes into the rear diff outdrive gets the longer side of the pin (3 x 11.7 mm). The other side of the dogbone is with stock pin (3 x 9.7 mm).

The longer pin is said to be more prone to wearing the diff outdrive. Time will tell as I've yet to test them.

The 3 x 9.7 mm stock pin on the bottom right, you could see that the tip is pretty flattened out after a while. If you see this on your dogbones, do not panic. You can resuse the pins... :sneaky:

Just take a vice, a hammer and something sharp and pointed so that you could use it to hammer the pin out of the dogbone. After getting the pin out, you could turn it 90 degrees and hammer the pin back in again to resuse it. The flattened and worned out part should no more be in contact with the surface of the outdrive and to the outdrives, the dogbone pin would look like new.

Good mod D.

Serpent will probably come out with the same design but with either Hody's spring steel or their own OEM spring steel. If they don't plan to then Julius will read this say "Hey! That's a good idea!" and then go knock on Pieter's door. Right Julius? :D ;)

Brett, that would be a shame. There are others but none as good or as complete as Mushroom for online ordering.

Sounds like it could be a business opportunity for you? Open a shop specializing in Serpent in NZ!
