New generation Serpent 960
The new generation of the successful 960 platform is called Serpent 966.

Its not easy to make a very good car even better, but Michael Salven, together with feedback from Team Serpent drivers, made it possible.

Easier to work on, more accessable, more durable, innovative … the works.

Below a list of main new features and some 3D pictures to explain them.

More detailed info and more "real" pictures to follow in the next 2 weeks.

As Sam from Kamikaze has stated... I believe there will be upgrade kits to change your 960 '08 into the 966.

Team Kamikaze 01-10-2009 08:36 AM

Part number for the conversion set from 08' 960 to 966 is SER903326, the conversion set and the SER903009 = 966 kit will both be available on February 2009.

This is a very nice car Serpent has now. Good looking serviceable rear section.:)

Storm_PT 01-13-2009 05:16 PM

I noticed something very good in those CAD images. Serpent has switched to hex head screws instead of phillips :) No more replacing all screws as soon as i get the kit :)

Problem with torx screws is that it is not common. Many people already have HEX tools. It would be a pain to have to buy also torx screws. Plus if your in the pits during a race/main and you have to borrow tools from a fellow racer, you couldn't do this because your using torx screws.

My guest is around $250.00 to $300.00, that's my guest so it's a 50/50 chance of either I am correct or totally wrong, I based it on the old conversion kit for the 960 08'.

seabass2500 01-21-2009 09:59 AM

Well I hope you are wrong Kamikaze!

If the conversion costs that much, I'm not seeing the whole reason for their move to asia... 'more cost friendly products'.

There are many people who have stayed strong with Serpent throughout this 'transition' of theirs. With the 960 '08 just coming out last year, I would hope Serpent would be a bit more understanding and thankful for those who are still Serpent drivers by being reasonable on these new parts and conversion.

I've been a Serpent driver since I started 1/8th scale (5 years ago) and am very loyal. I hung in here, as have many others, and was excited about the move to asia to help us financially. This is when I start to get a bad taste in my mouth.

Serpent... work with us!

Thanks.

You are absolutely correct, that you hope I am wrong! that is why I said "my guest", I just have to look at it this way: it comes with all CNC aluminum parts, chassis and such, but again I could be wrong, but one thing I am going to be sure about is, it's not going to be on a give away price.

nitrodude 01-21-2009 10:14 AM

We're getting a new chassis, that in itself is about $120. So, I hope the conversion is less than what Kamikaze said, but if you think about it, the price is not that bad with the chassis included. I cant wait to get mine, whatever the cost is

serpentamerica 01-21-2009 12:18 PM
