The solid front axle on a 1/8 car does the same thing that it does on a 200mm car. It makes the car easier to drive fast and much easier to stop. The only time it will push is when you are braking in a turn. If you brake while in a turn with a one way you spin - if you brake in a turn with a solid from axle you will push.
I found the best way to handle driving with a solid front is to brake late and brake hard. Then drive the car though the turn with light throttle and the car follows where the front tires are pointed. My fastest laps were with a locked front.
The drawback to the locked front is the front belt takes a beating due to it having to apply front brakes in addition to pulling the front tires. The fix for this (Serpent car) is the put a Mugen rear belt in place of the Serpent front belt. In order to do this I - 1) put aluminum pulleys on the car that were almost 9mm wide to accommodate the belt and 2) I made a front belt tensioner that was positioned on the radio tray pushing the belt down so that it was causing it wrap around the 16T pulley more to increase the number of teeth that were engaged with the belt. This combination resulted in very good front belt life.
This combination allowed me to pick up 2 to 3 car lengths at the end of the straight by out braking one way cars.

Hi Guys,
About 15 years ago all mayor serpent drivers had a solid axle at the front (depending on the track). At that time it was with the Serpent Excel. It really worked well on large tracks, where lots of braking was needed at the end of a long strait and without chicanes. A big problem was the wear on everything.

when u are adjusting the 2 speed clutch shoe do u move it by 1/2 turn or 1/4 turn ?
