i was wondering if i could use 3 in 1 oil for after run oil i have been using wd-40..i have a n4tec with a os 12cvrx and a hpi rs4 3 ss..traxxas says to use wd-40 but hpi says not to and i dont have a local hobby shop nearby.. so it gets old running out of afterrun oil and having to wait on it to get here thanks...

Use 1/1 scale car automatic tranmission oil. I used that for my after run oil:blush:

Air tool oil is the best you can get it at any hardware store.

any metal protection oil base lube with thin wt will do the job.

i use ATF before and now using premium grade engine oil

Taylor-Racing 09-21-2003 05:30 AM

I was using ATF till a friend at the track suggested to use 2-Stroke oil - like for an outboard motor. It seems so obvious now - and I've run out of ATF.

I'd think any light mineral oil would be fine - even baby oil.

the whole point of using afterrun oil is to eliminate rust...Nitro methane pulls water out of the air(thats why fuel needs to be capped).....And thats why your engine rusts....esp if the fuel company uses bad rust preventatives..

Afterburn Jr from racers choice has ingredients to dissolve the nitro methane in the engine...

thanks for all the help i will try some different things see what works best..i havent had any trouble with wd-40 but i have noticed it makes my engines hard to crank..

2mcgrath 09-21-2003 08:20 AM

also does it hurt your engine if you run it at night or evening and wait till the next day to afterrun it..

corvettecrazy 09-21-2003 09:44 AM

no that over night to a few days shouldn't really hurt anything. Hte hobby shop around me actually reccomends only unsing it if you wont use your for a few weeks.

I use marvel mystery oil and put it in after every time I fire it up. seems to work fine and burns right out when it is fired up next time.

so in a nutshell i guess all the types of oils and stuff mentioned would be suitable to use for afterrun oil

raveupon 09-21-2003 09:41 PM

i heard that ky jelly was a good lube:lol:

2mcgrath 09-21-2003 10:01 PM
