WHY DO ENGINE BEARINGS GO OUT SO QUICK?
Can anybody tell me why the bearings in Nitro .21 engines go out so fast? There should be something that could be done about this?Confused?

I would suggest checking your fuel..

Good idea.I didn,t know that fuel would have such an effect. What fuel do you recommend?

Bearings need 1 % of the total oil in a fuel to reach their designed life span. Id say you either bought a budget engine or had a faulty bearing.. Which engine was it ?

It's a Picco Evo Stock .21 and I'm using O'donnels 30% fuel.I was told the engine was a good one.I have a feeling the fuel was the cause.

Just make sure you run the engine dry or out of fuel and put after run oil after every outing and that should help with the bearing life.

Thats odd that the bearings went out that fast. Although I had a .21 Vspec that the bearings went out after like 2 gallons. I guess it just happens sometimes.

Nitro is very corrosive, so running it out and afterrun will help alot as was stated earlier, however rust can still form unless you take the engine apart, clean and oil it. I use 20/50 mobil 1 for this and the motor is serviced after every race weekend.
hope thus helps, Mike

odonnel fuel has gone down in quality I have heard of alot of people switching from it because of that same reason. A fuel that you would probaly find at a normal hobby shop that has a high oil content is byron. I like maxy's but its hard to get in most places

Even if ANY fuel's "quality has gone down" proper care of an engine should lead to prolonged bearing life. Francis' post says it all!

BTW, I just switched to Werks fuel... not because O'Donnell isn't good (it is) but because Werks is very good.

Thanks to everybody for your advice. I think I know the cause now.The inner bearing seems like it was bad to begin with. After only a gallon and a half the only thing that could have been the problem is the bearing.I maintain the engine really well, always emptying out the fuel and using after run oil after every run. I am thinking of changing fuels though, I've heard Werks is a good brand to go with.
