Soar 998 worth getting?
#1
Looks like a really good car but I see a lot of them up for sale really cheap and looking on Ebay, I see no parts at all.
I'm thinking I'd like to get one but if there's no parts support and if everybody selling theirs is selling for reasons they'd rather not say then I'll pass.
But it's such a good looking car. Is it worth getting one?

Look in the SOAR thread, there was a US distributor / seller. Many coming up for sale here too. Also i have been waiting 2 years for the Truggy to come out. In Europe Graupner had already dropped them....

I really like mine, another local racer has taken my car for a spin and after he got use to the massive amount of turn in the car has he turned laps faster than with his kyosho and told me he felt faster with it. Hes a pretty good driver and while not quite as fast as I am is far more consistant and experienced.
The cheaper 998s on ebay are 2016 cars, the 2017 is the one you want or wait for the upcoming td1r.
The current version of the car is very durable, with the exception of slightly quick wearing outdrives not much is needed for spares. I have yet to use any of my spares.
Granted they sponsor me so im going to have a postive bias but i will say I wanted to run the car before even applying for the team.
The kit doesnt come with wheels or servo horns and the throttle requires a low profile horn such as an mbx7 horn. .

When you say "Graupner had already dropped them....", what do you mean?

There's a seller in Germany has them for around 300 shipped and it's been in my watch list for a few months now because I've already been thinking about it for a while now but I don't want to pay too much for something I might not be able to get parts for. THere's planty of other things I could spend that kind of cash on. I just today ordered another new Lutz Worlds ed as a spare for one of my Mugens.
I own 5 OFNAs, a TTR EB4-S3, and a TD DNX8 so the last thing I want is another basket case where finding parts is like winning the lottery. Fortunately, I have quite a stock on parts for all those cars and again, 300 could snag quite a few of the remaining parts out there for those.

The 988 is a good quality car, driving as good or even better as the best big brands, no doubt about that
even the upgraded 2015 version, is good and strong enough, but finding parts for the older versions could be a challenge
unless buying some used kits for cheap, as they are sold to get the new editions or after a short testing peroid out of curiousity
but no need for much parts

Many brand cars are also being sold. We are looking at Soar in the long term and we are here to stay. Any edition of the Soar buggy is raceable out of the box but if you can have a new car, who wouldn't?
I guess that's why buggies are changing hand. I'm on the 998 TD1 now. As mentioned by Mike, it's pretty damn tough so little needs to be changed.
Cheers.
