Default 8ight T Vs B Gear Box Ratio

At the track on Sunday I lunched a pinion gear in the rear of my 8ight T . . my own fault, obvioulsy I had the diff shimmed incorrectly.

I was surprised how important it is to get the shimming exacally spot on and that you only need to be a little out and the diff either binds or is too loose . . . then I had a look at the 8ight T pinion - no wonder! It's a 10T, a tiny little thing with a very steep pitch!

That got me thinking . . . . The pinion gear for an 8B is a 13T . . . the pitch is different to the Truggy pinion - it looks a little more robust - it's larger in size, has more surface area, and the pitch would be more forgiving than the tiny little 10T.

I'm assuming Losi use different size gears for the 8T vs 8B to allow for the different size rims.

I've got replacement 8T gears . . . but I was thinking about fitting the 13T Buggy pinion and matched ring gear instead (and change over the front diff too) - I've got the buggy pinions and gears . . . .

Have any of you tried this?

Never tried it but I don't think your gonna have the same bottom end torque if you put in the buggy gears

Yeah I agree. I did a few calcs....

Truggy ratio box
50/13 =16.5 final drive ratio
48/13 = 15.8 final drive
48/14 = 14.7

Buggy ratio gear box
50/13 = 12.6 final drive ratio

I've fitted the gears to my basha truggy that has a Novarossi 528 xr fitted. I use that car for fooling around in car parks and skate parks with a mate. Not sure if the clutch will hold the ratio and torque of the engine.

I won't fit buggy gears to my race truggy though, the gearing would be too steep.

I think it would be a viable option for someone running a electric conversion!
