What diff oils have people found to be the best or is everyone running the box set up.

Sounds like the box set-up is the ticket....

10/15/5 Turns in and rotates better. The 20/20/10 is a little stiff.

Could you please bring more detail about running-in clutches like Teknos have? How do i check initial slip?

Drews the diff oil subject is like a Ford vs Chevy debate. We currently have 3 of us racing the Teknos at our local track. 10 in the center seems to be the hot ticket at our track. Experiment with the other 2 diffs and see what you like. I personally run 20-10-5 in my truggy. But that's my driving style preference.

Thanks JSK any other helpful tuning hints or is the rest pretty much box set up our track here in Melbourne is a fairly tight track a lot of bottom to mid range power.

The reason I ask is mine will be the first tekno at our track so there's no known setups yet.

That's awesome I'm just about to start building mine do you have any set up tips for me or did you just stick to the box setup.
I sent you a pm

I keep reading about problems with the spur gear but it doesn't seem to be every one but the ones it's happening to its happening often not just a one off so my question is , is there a spur gear problem tekno got straight onto the tank problem so what's going on with Spurs I only ask cause I just bought the kit is it something I should worry about.

If you want the official answer from Daniel at tekno then go back a couple pages but yes they have already re engineered the spur and will be releasing a 10x stronger version soon. I still have my original spur and its fine after 4+ hours run time. Its all about how you set your mesh and driving style etc but it wont matter once the new spurs are released.

If I were you, I would build the truck 100% stock and follow the manual directions exclusively and then tune from there. Theres a reason its the stock set up, its a good neutral starting point for everyone no matter what the driving style. You can get a setup sheet from your buddy but maybe hes heavy on the throttle and likes to drift turns and maybe you are smoother, in which case your setups would be completely different in most cases so, start with stock and then go from there, feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

Is anybody running a different clutch and clutch bell setup?

I run the Buku with vented Serpent 13t bell. Love it. Just need to make sure you set it properly and when running a Buku clutch you must use a brand new bell otherwise the clutch will melt and preferably a vented one.

I have a Buku clutch but have never tested it in a Truggy. A few guys have tried them at my local track in Truggy, but they have all had issues with the clutch slipping after a bit. I think I'll test it myself and see how it goes. Has anybody tried a different clutch bell besides Tekno and Serpent that will reach the spur gear properly?

No, At that point it is easier to shim the flywheel forward and use shins. That allows you to use whatever clutch and bell that you want.

BuKu in a truggy can be a bit of a handful as far as setting them up goes. It can be done on slick tracks with the stagger or you can run all three shoes the same on higher bite. Either way it's really easy to overheat them. Werks or M2c 4 shoe. The stock clutch works fine. Make sure you have someone help you seat the shoes in and try it, I think you will like it just fine.

Thanks for the info. I currently use the stock clutch which I really like. I also have the werks and M2C clutches but I haven't had time to try them out, or to see if I could get them to work with a standard clutch bell. I've only had one proper club race day with the Truggy. But I love the way this things handles and drives. Box setup is awesome but I run 15 15 7 diffs.

I am using the stock flywheel with Losi shoes and springs. I use the same spring shoe combo as the buggy. But I use the Losi steel flywheel in buggy and stock Tekno flywheel in truggy. Losi shoes and springs are a direct fit

I am fortunate because I race with Brian who is head of Sales for Buku and has taught me how to set it up and use properly. I havent had any slipping or over heating issues. I use staggered settings. Honestly, like i said i think a lot of guys have bad experiences because they use old bells or dont set them properly because mine have been great!

So here is the message I missed...sorry buddy !

Basically initially you want to bed the shoes in...take the car and pin it to the ground, then give several 2 second burst of throttle... do this roughly 8 times in a row... Then start driving the car around ..being careful not to do any dead stop full power bursts... Just drive the car around slowly at lower throttle for a couple of tanks.. The lower throttle allows the clutch to slip some and wear itself into the bell.......If you try to go too hard too fast you will just overheat and melt the clutch.... The goal of the breakin is to match the radius of the clutchbell with the clutch shoes..when the shoes are new they don't fit the bell overly well and have a very small contact patch... the brak will wear the shoes down in a controlled manner untill they have a full contact patch.......... I found the Tekno shoes required a fair amount of breakin till they set in properly..initially they slipped very badly when I tried to get on the juice..but after a couple of breakin tanks the clutch was holding fast and providing killer performance.......

Thanks a lot. Now i know why my shoes went away too fast on NB48: lack of break-in and excessive amount of bearing oil into clutch bearings. Seems nitro offroad has more deeper learning curve than i expected.

I've had two solid club races now with my Serpent centre diff and it is rock solid. I tq'd for the 30 min main. Had 2 flameouts unfortunately but still came third. I was only 16 seconds behind the leader on the same lap. I love this truck.

Yes it did. I just had to put shims behind the diff bearings as I used the Tekno out drives. You can buy the parts here in Australia from Walter RC Hobbies. Much cheaper than Amain. Plus with the dollar conversion makes it cheaper again.

dbrown 10-06-2014 10:17 AM

Which diff buggy or truggy

I'm using an 811T V1 diff with V1 internal diff gears. I had that spare from my 811T. I just had to buy the 48T spur. You could use the V2 diff and gears as well.
Like I've said I've had 2 race meets with this setup and it's been rock solid. I feel so confident in this truck as everything else is so tough.

dbrown 10-06-2014 11:43 AM

Thanks.Just ordered one off eBay truggy 50.Hope it clears.

XT8Truggy 10-06-2014 11:58 AM

No problem it should clear if your using the thicker spaces. It's not the ideal solution to be spending money on a new Truggy to fix the problem. But for me it works and I no I can finish races. Tekno will have a stronger spur coming out soon enough.

dbrown 10-06-2014 12:17 PM

Thanks
