But lots of guys land on power. No problem. Just saying different driving style. Possibly those who drive harder are breaking teeth and less impact is just causing early wear. I'm a welder and a diesel mechanic, but not a metallurgist. I did lose a lobe on a camshaft in a 1:1 race motor once, and it was amazing the amount of wear that occurred and the speed it happened after it wore through the hardened surface. Are spur gears hardened throughout, or just on the surface? Just thinking out loud, but it seems like the wear starts to happen at an exponential rate once it starts

Yeah the teeth start to get sharp. It's not uncommon after several gallons just never had a car do it so quickly. Never broken a tooth of one though. I am sure tekno is looking closely at there hardening process for both right now.

I hope Tekno gets the issues resolved quickly. Everyone is loving this truck and it seems to be wonderful on the tracks. I'll be ready for a new truck in January and I'm leaning in this direction and I'm pretty confident all the bugs will be worked out by then.

The only thing I can say john is that my bell does not engage as far forward due to the clutch I am using. Quite possibly the teeth don't have enough engagement to twist teeth off the spur with the bell this far back. ?????

As mo said, I have no doubt the issue will be resolved. I had confidence in teknos reputation prior to purchasing the truck, I went out in left field buying the first nt48 in my immediate area, knowing it was a quality company with am excellent reputation. I'm still thrilled with and by the truck, it's a beast on the track... Durability issues other than this are non existent. The diff gears and ring and pinion show virtually no wear after all this time...

Hey Guys,

I'm sorry that I haven't been racing or on RC Tech lately. I've been spending all of my free time with the family.

I've marked the shock tools down to $25 a set. If you want a set now is the time to grab them. I've also marked the front skid plates down to $12.

Thanks for all of your support!

Chris

Jones Auto 08-22-2014 06:29 PM

Thanks Chris I ordered 2 sets of shock tools this week. Mo post some pics of the wrap when you get it back.

What's a good starter box fit for this truck? Looking to upgrade and curious what you guys are using.

JsK 08-22-2014 10:07 PM

The blue OFNA truggy box. Put a 4s LiPo in it, get rid of the tamiya connector and run deans. I also soldered all the spade plug connections together . 8 seasons and it's been the most reliable piece of equipment I have.

nitroal 08-24-2014 06:52 PM

anyone have a durango 48t spur gear lying around they could see if it fits the tekno diff cup? I think the hole pattern is the same and would really like to test a different spur gear to see if it will better or if it is a chassis flex issue causing the teeth to break off.

Durango, Losi, Kyosho and Serpent spur gears don't fit. I've tried them. Serpent is the closest but the holes are still too far apart.

nitroal 08-24-2014 07:28 PM

Damn!! thanks. I was just hoping to rule 1 piece of the problem out. Now I need someone to build a forward extended motor mount!!

I said screw it and made my own.
its an Agama gear I welded the holes shut then tuned them down on a lathe the drilled new holes.
the diff lining is too large so I just used the gasket and gasket sealer and had ZERO leaks. which I found weird cause I would a very small amount on the stock spur.lol
raced it this weekend, won by 4 or 5 laps at G Force. gear held up fantastic!

They are all hard anodized to a dark grey color, but here's a picture of a set fresh out of the mill.

HMM? is the buggy better than the mp9?

nitroal 08-25-2014 05:11 PM

i think it can be, but it takes more work to get it there than the truggy. the truggy just works!!

Mo Denton 08-25-2014 05:49 PM

Buggy is currently just as good. My buggy is actually the first one I have had that I do faster lap times than my truggy. And my truggy is badass!

TheMuffinman 08-26-2014 12:56 AM

my friend has Dutch his tekno et48 to go and buy a nt48 his just sick off ep truggy now his said he go back to a nitro truggy

Jones Auto 08-26-2014 03:32 AM

Well I would not say I'm joining the party just yet. But i will be showing up fashionably late lol!!! The guys at tekno seem pretty confident that i will be faster with the NT48 compared to my evo. The limited time I get to see Mo's truck run it looks like a slot car. I'm not one of these guys who cares about THE NAME or which country something is made in. If its fast, durable fun to drive and easy to wrench on I will give it a try.

Mo Denton 08-26-2014 10:00 AM

you will dig it. its is fast, fun to drive and VERY easy to work on

Hope you love it Brian, its definitely fast, durable and fun to drive, and I think wrenching is relative but I find Teknos very easy to work on except the lack of a split center diff makes diff maintenance a little more tedious than some other brands but glad you are giving it a try. Still loving the BUKU set up in my NB48, not sure if Ill make that investment in the NT48 this season with only a couple months left but definitely next season, the durability of the shoes and the performance definitely top notch, now we just gotta work on the cap instructions haha but thanks for helping.

Track video of nt48 racing at MBRC

Hey guys, been a while since I posted up. Tekno has great support and customer care. I am excited to see an upgraded spur gear... The truggy has been awesome, I've been messing around with my setup and the truggy feels great... I have never been so excited the night before races anymore. It is the most fun I've ever had driving rc.... Every week I drive it harder and harder and it just gets faster and faster. I still love the ability to pass on the inside of a corner. Crossing the lane before the turn and pinching it on the inside gives a clean pass everytime. I don't think the other truggies can get to those spots on the track so I throttle away clean. I really enjoy that. Here's a video of my ops powered truggy last Saturday ( on a muddy track)

Mine is the orange truggy
