Default Nervous when racing?

How many of you guys get nervous when you start racing if so what do you do to combat it.

I notice I get nervous/ anxiety in different degrees when racing which I think cost me at least 1 sec a lap in pace.

I'm sure a few of you have little methods before you race to stay calm.

It helps to just run your own race, dont try to race anyone else, dont worry about what place your in, just try n improve lap after lap, i dont mean faster but smoother and the laptimes will def drop.....n so will the nervousness

Isn't being nervous half the fun? Use it to motivate yourself!

Everybodyelse is probably as nervous as you are! Go with it!

Before someone calls me out on not racing rc cars, I'VE RACED BMX AND MOTO-CROSS...

It goes away with time. I've been racing r/c cars for 20+ years and I don't get nervous any more. Even at big races I don't have a problem (I've had races where Hartson was in the same round, and I think I was in the same round as Tebo at CRCRC Midwinter champs (at least before the re-sort)). For me, I just focus on driving good, clean, fast laps. It also helps me to have confidence in my car. I always make sure my cars are perfect. Fresh diffs with good outdrives, fresh shock build, smooth CVD's, and everything else exactly how it is supposed to be. It is hard to have confidence, and not worry if something is wrong with your car.

If you get nervous now wait till you start getting fast! It's like the kiss of death! As soon as I hear my name on the speaker in a podioum spot I instantly crash 15 times the next lap. .

for me, it's as soon as i hear my name. i crash. regardless of position. which usually isn't a podium spot anyway.
