The driver's stands are like 9 feet in the air and you need a 6" step stool? If you're over 5 feet tall, you don't need one of these. Almost every driver seems to have one these days, it's getting absurd. Ok, gripe session over.

Marcus,
I'll agree with you if it was a milk crate. LOL.
I have used the item in question at different times at different tracks. Not all stands are high enough and it does help to see over the racer that always seems to lean out from the stand when your car is at the worst part of the track to see (could be trying to come into pit lane). I do agree that those little stands are becoming more the norm on the driver's stand. Not sure why, but I guess everyone has their reasons for having one. Funny thing is that many times I have had mine with me at the track and forgot to take it to the stand with me.

my disclaimer is that I dont race... but I do run at a few tracks from time to time... for me the stool isnt so much to be able to see... but to have the controller above the rail as I hold it... I hold mine at about center of my belly... which tends to be right about where the railing is height wise... this gets it to the point where its just slightly above and I dont run the risk of banging it...
