One of the RC magazines that just came out this month had an article of how to build your own break in bench...sorry I can not remember which one it was though.

Here is my Hudy stand with some "changes" I made

and a vid breaking in a Clockwork Racing Picco .28

I now have a Competition Heat Engine Warmer which solved the "prop cooling issue"

I would like to see a Video of some one Braking in a Motor from the Fist Tank and up to the Last just Brake it down to a Couple of Min a Tanks that way it don't take a Hour to watch the Video :lol: . I wont to see how you guys Very the Throttle from Tank to Tank.

I'm hoping to brake in an OS Speed this weekend ... I will put something together for ya ... keep in mind there are different brake in methods but I use the heat cycle method ... first 2 tanks at pretty much idle to seat the bearings ... then add some throttle each tank after that ... always nice and rich ... I will usually do 7-10 tanks on the bench then it goes in a truck

COOL THANKS Jed the Geezer that is the kind of Video i have been looking for. I just wont to see how other people brake in motors on the Brake In Stands i am gone to get a motor stand in the next couple of weeks and would like to see how to do it i have all ways done it in my buggy but it takes up to much time having to drive the buggy around and be with it all the time with a stand i can just put in on there and do other stuf as it runs.

yea thats no load i could really see that thing not good for the motor im no expert but u need load or bad things could happen especially in break in

dreaux 05-12-2010 06:28 PM

i agree with you busta. But how much do you think that plastic prop actually weighs?

Is it slugged with weights or something? If not, it cannot weigh more then a flywheel, shoes and bell

yip thats not i was refering to champ its the fact wen it spins it puts load on the motor but u can spin a motor with only a clutch assemble on then there is no load its what is refers to free spinning

It's not about the weight of the prop. The prop blades have alot
of pitch on them and it puts alot of load on the engine. The faster
it spins the more the load increases to pull more air through the blades.
That's the reason for a shield in front of the carb. That much air
makes it hard to control the engine temps and without an air cleaner
of some kind, the fuel gets pulled out the venturi a high rpm's.

we are talking about the same thing. I know you cannot run a motor without the tires on. I already know that. what i want to know is how much the prop weighs. Because really it only matters when you vary the throttle. Since the clutch is disengaged.

So i guess the real question is, does the break in bench have a load on it ALL THE TIME. Not just when the clutch engages.

OR

Is there a flywheel/clutch that engages the prop?

if there is a load on it at ALL times then even in your buggy you would have to have a big ass flywheel to equal that. Or you would have to have a high enough idle to engage the clutch at all times, which would not be good for the engine.

low and varied rpm's with load at all times. Sounds like a winner

wait i understand now. The prop creates load from air resistance on the fin fan.

well crap. Strap a propellar to a stand and break the sucker in!

rageworks 05-12-2010 07:28 PM

dreaux, the prop is mounted soild onto the engines
crankshaft using a special adapter. Yes, there is always
some load on the engine, at all times, when the engine
is running. The engine is never allowed to freewheel with
out a load on it.

RD Logics also makes a break-in bench and sells
the parts for it. You can buy the prop, prop adapter
and prop nut from them and build your own bench,
set up the way you want it. Here is the link,

I have used that 1 for a few years now. Works like a charm; bought mine on e-bay cheap. I have a nova motor ready to go when I get a free weekend and along with a comp engine heater it should :D all the way

thanks for the link. That was really cool.

huddy makes great stuff no doubt, i do have thier set up station. But i don't think all that is necesarry for everything. I do think the set up station is a bit overkill. But it does work great
