i have been using spectro foam filter cleaner in a spray can ..it will get rid of most of the oil and dirt ..you can find it or something similar at the motorcycle shop...ive also been using maxima ft-1 foam filter oil ...it works great ..but its a little thicker than than hobby filter oil ...so ring it out very good of all excess oil ...it can restrict the flow if its to think ..but the hobby oils are just no where near as thick and sticky ...which sticky is what you want ....havent tried the rock oil yet ..but people say it is the best and it is water soluble ...

I soak the filter with model fuel i.e. Sidewinder, Cosmo, etc
the filter(sponge) will expand a little bit and clean it with washing liquid after that. The sponge will shrink after it gets dry.
I found this is the best way for me to clean air filter. especially if you use very sticky filter oil.

Just plain methanol. soak it with it and let it dry to shrink again before re-oiling. Water and other chemicals are devestating for your engine
