Hey, I have an SC8 and need to get it set up a bit better for a race coming up...
Here is a short slo-mo vid of the track from last weekend:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aO4KoxDmYM
It's bumpy and a bit rutty and rough.. I drove the SC8 too, and it was all over the place. First problem was tires.. But I think I need to get the oils in the diffs right.. It really turns in on itself, suggesting I guess that I need some thicker oil in the center diff?
For my RC8T I had 7-10-3, so was assuming I'd do that with the SC8 too(actually, was just gonna put some 10 in the middle..
As for the shocks, they are Asso Big Bores with 40ish (mixed the rest of my 40 and 45), and the truck was really quite bouncy, suggesting maybe I need to lower the shock oil.. 35??
For tires I'm thinking medium Grid-irons...
Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated..
Might post up an onboard vid I made with the SC8 last weekend in a bit....

Don't get sea-sick...
Anyway, for now I am going to put 10,000 in the middle, and 35 all around in the shocks.. Don't know if it's worth messing with the front and rear diffs...
BTW, the truck has Big Bores and a thick sway bar in the rear.. Before I thought it looked a bit topsy-turvy going through the turns.. Last weekend though it was laying flatter, but spinning out too easily... That's why I thought 10k in the diffs....

My RC8T I run 7F, 10C, 5 or 3 Rear.
I think I will be changing this season if it ever opens,
to 7k,7k,7k, to try out the track changes and the rebuild.
I cannot remember what I have in my SC8 or even if I changed them.

Well, it seems there isn't much of a market for used SC8's, and I'm not going to give mine away, so I guess I'll be keeping it.
One thing that really irritates me about it is when the front bumper catches and sends the truck violently cartwheeling.. I couldn't care less about scale authenticity, so is fixing this issue just a matter of removing the whole front bumper? I have a few RC8 bumpers laying around...
Also, what is a good standard shock oil weight to start with? I did 35 last time and the truck handles HORRIBLY... I'm thinking more like 30 or even 25... The local track is really rutty..

Patrick, are you running BB shocks, or the standard shocks? I run the FT 16mm shocks, with 35 weight shock oils and it's planted, flat out handles great! I can run with buggies and truggies and it does VERY well, in fact, it's faster than some of them..with the roll cage and bumpers installed
Maybe the rest of your setup is all wank?

Thanks for the info.
I have the RC8B Big Bores. 35 wt oil, 7-7-3, and this SC8 was HORRIBLE on the local track.. I mean, horrendous.. The body was getting caught in the wind off jumps making everything totally unpredictable, etc.. This day was supposed to be fun free-for-all day - buggies, truggies, and me.. And after two tanks I gave up and went home.. It was fast as hell in a straight line too with the Mach and 17T CB with 2047 pipe and Fioroni 3-shoe clutch.. It was just USELESS through the bumps, around the turns, and in the air....
Again, it's a very rutty track, with big stones here and there..
I'll ditch the bumper and try 27.5 wt in the shocks..
Before that last time out I had also set the toe way out.. This didn't seem to help...

Anybody tried one of these bumpers? Better?
http://cgi.ebay.com/Short-Course-Fro...item1c1802993f
Kind of wondering.. Yeah, maybe the truck would look kind of buck-tooth without a bumper..
EDIT:
If you look at the same bumper from the side, as seen in this link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Associated-SC8e-...item5196e39a94 ...
..it does look like it doesn't stick out as much, and therefore wouldn't be as likely to dig in and send the truck flipping... ??

Sssooo, took my RC8B, SC8, and DM-1 out today to this place with an indoor hall with onroad track and a roofed offroad track. RC8B quickly blew a diff, and DM-1 fried a 2-speed gear(again.. Starting to hate that car..) And what car ran flawlessly? The SC8, which I had been trying to sell but didn't get any decent offers..., and the trusty ole' Mach 427.. Only had time to run a few tanks inside on the onroad track.. But it was fun..

Yup - sure do!!!!!!
And it's one of my favorite vehicles.... Evidently though this thought isn't too common.
We race these at Timberline Raceway in Osawatomie, KS - they're fun to race, realistic looking on the track and durable!
I hope that we can get some more going but I understand they're a bit expensive!
