GRP vs VSpec

If you had to choose between a GRP .21 with the promo kit pipe and a VSpec with a JP3 what would you go with? I hear the Vspec holds a tune better but the GRP is better on fuel, will last longer and has a smoother power band. I don't mind tuning but the idea of rock solid tunes is nice.

Help!:( I can't decide ...

A lot of people around here run the GRP and I'm very impressed with the amount of compression. Like, 2 gallons and still having to heat it up with a heat gun. I'd give the GRP a shot if I felt like(or could afford) dropping four hundred bucks on a motor.

Hi, If you were torn between the GRP and a SPEED it'd be a harder decision ;) As you've asked it, in my opinion its easy, BUY the GRP everytime !

I've had both, didn't mind the Vspec at all, average power, good run time, didn't like having to replace the rear bearing with less than a gallon on it, but knew it was likely to be needed when i purchased it.

The GRP is coming on for a gallon old and metal pinch is on the way out, run times are good, power wise it's really smooth with a strong bottom end but as yet it doesn't scream like my C6 does at the top (it's better than average but not awesome as yet). That may come with a little more fuel though her though ........ Build quality is awesome. I don't know what your talking about when you hint you don't think the GRP will hold a tune so well as the Vspec either .......... again it's been great :)

I don't like the GRP pipe,It's over restrictive, I find the motor alot more responsive with a JP-4 on it .....

O.K. I'll say it. You've opened a big can of worms.:D:eek:

No probs with my bearings yet ( 3 gal ) on my V-spec, but i average 10 min a run so if GRP can beat that then try it out.:tire::):):tire:

i have never had a grp but....ive been seeing a lot of flame outs w/the grps
if i was you i might look towards the direction of an os speed

Merciless 07-02-2008 04:48 PM

No problems with flame outs here, From my experience with any nitro motor there usually caused by incorrect LSN adjustment ;)

Wasn't bashing the Vspec, I do expect you'll find though anywhere you can manage 10mins using a Vspec the GRP will do 10mins too. A few locals use Vspecs and although I can't get 10mins with mine yet (still trying though as im sure the JP-4 isn't the most fuel efficent pipe, I'm still using the 8mm restricter and it's not fully broke in yet) I can easily out run the Vspec's between stops. Although again that probably isn't completely down to just the motors.......

There both quality mills, I simply preffer the GRP.......

I've read that the GRP is all about LSN and that's the reason for the flame outs.

Well I did it, I bought the GRP Promo kit form tiltedrc for $375. A screaming deal. I just thought I'd want more power eventually for my 8-t and the vspec just did not have the specs the GRP did. For Truggy I think I'll appreciate the power when I want it. I still want to hear your opinions though. Thanks so far for your feedback.

I currently have both Vspec in Losi 8 and GRP in SX8. Vspec is a piece of cake to tune with about 8 min run times running 220. GRP is all about low speed on flame outs but getting 11 1/2 min run times at 205. I can not complain about either engine but the run time on the Grp is a big advantage. I would say either will get the job done but the GRP will give you less pit stops in the main. The gentleman with 10 min on a Vspec please give up your secret LOL

Better fuel economy is awesome to hear as nitro prices go up.

there is no secret to a long run time with a vspec just a good tune. The worst i get is 10mins going hard with the best being 12min 25sec. It sits around 120c on a loose track... i think its all in the finger!

thats with a 2060 pipe...

the guy that said he gets 10 min on a run time is my step dad BGBELDEN the girls with her boobs going up and down. anyway he does not tune his engines i do and if i really wanted to i could make his engine get about 11 to 12 min on a tank of gas. when i used to run the v-spec all of my engines got past 10 min except one i think my worst ever run time was about 9 min but that is still good. oh and the v-specs i used to run were pintched too so thay had about 7 gallons on it

I can't drive and i can't tune but i seem to be able to blow my money on race day. So like rc31cli said he does 95% of my tuning. I could try harder to grasp everything but i just go for the fun and because i'm there to watch him win.:tire::nod::nod::tire:

I get 12.45 on my maxy mod Vspec with an associated 2035 pipe. With a jP3 I get 11 min.
