OK...I got to work on one...and just got done building another one...
A couple (edit: "few"
) observations:
1) The smoothest kit organization I've ever seen. OMG...f-in SWEET. I think I did the whole kit in 4-5 hours. Everything in in the right bags, you can do one part at a time without opening every stupid bag...LOVE IT.
2) The shock piston falling off deal...I bet I know why that happens.
The hole in the piston is an interference hole. Not the best deal for that, IMO. You are essentially cutting threads into the piston, then the piston acts like a bolt with a big headed washer. They use stuff like that on late-model motors on stuff that turns one way, because the fastener tends to tighten itself as it turns. I just reamed the hole out a tiny bit, so the fastener can actually do what it's supposed to and clamp the two things together.
You just flat-out shouldn't have to let Loctite cure. It's anaerobic, it cures when you tighten it and that happens pretty quickly as soon as the parts are attached. Not to mention that having to wait makes it pretty much impossible to change pistons at the track. It's the system that has a problem...I'll keep y'all posted on my "mod".
3) The shock standoff things are hurtin' for sure.
What a piece of crap. We're gonna try and adapt a more conventional setup with a screw and a spacer. My friend messed up two of them last night...they strip out, snap off...you name it. One of his stripped last night, and he couldn't get the shock retaining nut off (after the bigger side holding it to the tower snapped off). I grabbed it with a pair of pliers and a little dynamite nut driver and snapped it right off with my hands...I thought I'd give it a shot, but didn't figure it would actually break that easy...
Definitely have a materials issue there. You couldn't snap off a regular-old screw that easy for sure. I had almost no grip and very little leverage.
Pretty car, though. Jerry's pretty good and he doesn't crash too much, so I'm pretty anxious to see it on the track...I've become his unofficial crew chief, so I know how the car was built, so I'll be able to see what happens first-hand...without spending my own dollars...LOL
Oh yeah, I weighed my Mugen and and my other friend's Losi last night at the track...looks like 8 ounces difference. That's a pretty big difference...is there a minimum/standard weight for 1/8th scale buggies? The Prospec was 7 pounds 14.9 ounces and the Losi was 7 pounds, 7 ounces.

I really like this buggy. It seems to have some issues that needs to be worked out but what new buggy does not have its issues.
I want to give the losi a try and jump away from the Mugen. Not that its not a great buggy.
What extra parts would anyone recommend for the 8ight.
1: extra clutch shoes
2: front A arms and shock shafts.
3: extra C hubs?

The outer rear hub hinge pins bend a little easy, so I would suggest some of those too.

I looked on the Losi site and I can not seem to find to many Setup sheets. Two is all I have found. Is there another site I can locate more setups. Maybe like Jesse Robbers Columbus Oh. setup?
Also is the Al chassis and spindle worth the extra bucks?
