Taking a buggy kit on a plane (carry-on baggage)

Does anybody know if there are any problems (or had any problems) during check-in of carry-on baggage with a 1/8 buggy KIT + engine+pipe combo?
A friend of mine is taking a mbx8 kit with an engine combo for me and we're wondering if security will not freak out looking at a bag of parts...
I watched a vid by Ty Tessmann where he goes through his packing method but he transports built cars not kits (easier to explain i guess).
Do you have any experience in that?

The engine maybe an issue depending on the airline. Some will let an engine on some will not. It also depends on if it is used or new as well.
When ever I have flown with my cars I take the engine and fuel tank out. And either ship them to the destination or I pack them in checked baggage.
Now you never know when you go through security if they will have issue. I was flying from Phoenix to St. Louis once and TSA wanted to check my Ebuggy out because the guy said the battery looked like a bomb. Lol. These people have no idea what they are looking for. He swabbed the car and it passed and we went on.
A kit will not be a problem but for the oils that come with it. They will need to be in the quart size ziplock bag and xrayed by itself.

The actual amount per container is 3.4 ounces. You can’t have a 6 oz container with 3.4oz in it. The max container size is 3.4 oz. it must all fit in a quart size bag.

The kit will be brand new, unassebled MBX8. The engine combo will be brand new as well.
As for the liquids - the only ones will be a 50ml bottle of shock oil + 3 microscopic (~10ml each I guess) diff oil bottles so I suppose there will not be a problem.
He can always throw away the oils - no big deal. I was more concerned about the buggy and engine as this would be a BIG loss if they forced him to throw it away...

No issue, just move to another security check point if they don’t like what u have. In general if u make sure it’s completly cleaned so no nitro is easily detected by smell you should be fine. Most of the guys will be pumped to see a cool toy come threw! I am a professional dirtbike racer and walk threw the airport with gear that could hurt someone and they don’t care 40 out of 42 weekends n when they do I put my boots on my feet as normal footwear. Tsa is flexible with what they see as long as it doesn’t cause major precautionary issues. Just be a good guy and go do what u are traveling for and they will be cool. If u wanna be safe clean out your diffs, the rest is plastic and metal toy parts. Don’t bring anything liquid or excessive, keep it simple with a car starter box and radio, the rest u can pick up.

Never had an issue with taking my RC stuff. I dont think Southwest allows lipos at all but other airlines do. I do make sure my lipos are discharged or in a storage setting, also in a fireproof box. I take my cars and radio with me on the plane. Everyonce in a while, I get charged for an extra carry on, but thats it..
