Hey everyone, my name is DJ. I was out at the track MRO track saturday to test my Slash out on the offroad track and saw some of you guys running.
I'm definitely interested in being apart of this.
Where did you guys go about picking up your cars? Motors etc.
I've found a motor that I'd like to run that's within spec, but recommendations on an esc?
Thanks everyone
DJ

Tamiya
F104 - Chassis meets all the rules just need electronics, tires, and perhaps a body depending on what variant you get.
F104W - Pretty much the same as the F104 only it has a wide front end. You would need to convert this to narrow but that only costs about $10. Still need tires, electronics and maybe body. Many of these come with bodies but they don't fit the narrow front end without modification.
F104 version 2 - Newest car from Tamiya with updated rear (link style rather than T plate). Probably will only find new whereas the others you might find used.
3racing
FGX - Quite popular mostly because it is inexpensive and it works pretty well out of the box. Tires and electronics needed. Some folks have been breaking a particular part quite a bit lately so it may need some upgrading. But some haven't broken it at all so it may be ok. Tim is starting to stock parts for the car.
HPI
Formula 10 -Oldest design of the bunch but is inexpensive also. Most say it needs more upgrades than the others to be competetive. Not many around here so hard to say. Probably need tires and electronics.
Check the for sale threads for used cars or check out Wednesday nights or next Sunday at the Plex for used ones. Hobbytown also has a pretty good selection of new... or at least they did but they have been getting bought. I've got a lightly used F104W for sale if you are interested.
As far as esc's go its a non timing class so about any brushless esc would be fine. Don't need an expensive one to be competitive. The only thing is there isn't much room under the bodies so the smaller the better. Novak Edge seems to work well.

Perfect I was actually looking at both the f104's and the f104w's.
Is there a specific Hobbytown up there that has the selection? I'm out of Lincoln and we don't have anything to pick from here.
I'll definitely start peicing together and join once I get some lap time down. I've only recently started getting into rc cars, and would just embarass myself in a competition setting or even break someone elses car... So once I get the hang of thing. I just wanted to get the correct car so I can join down the road!

So I just got to ask to make sure I'm not buying something wrong, is a set up like this allowed?

Very cool Bernie! I look forward to seeing the new ride!
Time to kick some tires and light some fires!
Don't beat on me too much tonight though when I take the "easy spots" when marshaling. Not sure what I did, but man my knee hurts! And the first guy to mention anything age related might want to skip any open wheel class
