Thumbs up '10-'11 HobbyPLEX Carpet Racing

Time to start thinking about the upcoming carpet season!!!

First, the schedule looks like this:

OVAL:
September 25th - Test & Tune race
October 2nd, 9th, 16th, 30th
November 6th, 13th, 27th
December 4th, 18th
Point series best 6 of 8

WINTER SERIES
October 23rd
November 20th
January TBA
February TBA
March TBA

BRL Finals March 11th - 13th

ONROAD:
September 26th Test & Tune
October 3rd, 10th, 17th, 31st
November 7th, 14th, 28th
December 5th, 19th
Point series best 6 of 8

WINTER SERIES
October 24th
November 21st
January TBA
February TBA
March TBA

HobbyPLEX ?? Hour ENDURO TBA
TCS RACE TBA

Next, what classes and changes if any and who's running what:

OVAL:
PLEXCup 17.5 Trucks - ROAR approved 17.5 motor and 3.7v lipo, GTB/Slyder/HAVOK/LRP AI Spec ESC ONLY, World GT tires, Truck body (Max 2" spoiler), 36 oz minimum

Sportsman 17.5 Trucks - ROAR approved 17.5 motor, SMC 4000mah 25c battery P/N 4025s, ROAR Sportsman ESCs (zero timing), World GT tires, Truck body (Max 2" spoiler), 36 oz minimum

Stock 17.5 - ROAR approved 17.5 motor and 3.7v lipo, Open ESC, NASCAR Nationwide bodies w/stock spoiler/1.5" max, no rear cutout, 36 oz minimum

Stock Spec 13.5 - ROAR approved 13.5 motor and 3.7v lipo, ROAR Sportsman ESCs (zero timing), TOUR Spec COT bodies (rear wing must remain clear), 36 oz minimum

Super Stock 13.5 - ROAR approved 13.5 motor and 3.7v lipo, Open ESC, TOUR Spec COT bodies (rear wing must be painted), 36 oz minimum

Mod 10.5
- ROAR approved 10.5 motor and 3.7v lipo, Open ESC, NASCAR Nationwide bodies/back may be cut out/wings allowed, 36 oz minimum

What other classes do guys want to run? My guess would be Stock 17.5 and/or Stock Spec 13.5 on a regular basis? Mini Late Models?? If we have enough to run them, there will be one class, stock motor or 6000kv B/L max. A Junior Mini Sprint/Late Model class would be awesome!!

ONROAD:
TCS Mini & Jr Mini - TCS Rules plus we will allow 17.5 Brushless w/ GTB/Slyder/HAVOK/LRP AI Spec ESC ONLY, 1250g minimum

Trans Am - Full USVTA Rules package w/ 5.0 FDR limit, 25.5 Novak motor, GTB/Slyder/HAVOK/LRP AI Spec ESC ONLY, 1550g minimum (driver figure NOT required but does look cool)

Stock Touring - ROAR 17.5 motor & 7.4v lipo, Open ESC, JACO Blue spec tire, 1420g minimum

RCGT Touring - 4WD or FWD chassis, ROAR 21.5 motor & 7.4v lipo, Open ESC, HPI X-Pattern tires w/stock insert on non-dish wheels, Realistic bodies (Tamiya or HPI), 4WD 1450g/FWD 1400g minimum

13.5 1/12th Scale - ROAR 13.5 motor & 3.7v lipo, Open ESC, 730g minimum

It looks like Mini & Jr Mini should have good numbers this year so no changes other than allowing 17.5 B/L w/GTB/Slyder/HAVOK/LRP AI Spec ESC ONLY. Trans Am should be our biggest class again and with the new 25.5 & spec ESCs it should be even better racing. No changes to 1/12th scale but, I'll leave it up to the racers to determine if they want to change anything.

Touring is the only question mark. My plan is be to run Stock Touring on Sundays and run RCGT on Wednesdays. We need to run Stock Touring on Sunday so we have a draw for the out of town racers and I'm pretty sure Wednesday will have a larger draw for RCGT so this makes sense. I really don't want to run two touring classes on either race day.

The last thing is the biggest. I've looked into and talked about this over the last few years and I think it's time to make the change. This year we are going to odorless traction compounds only. These will include COR13779 TC-2 PLUS "Jack the Gripper", SXT00030 SXT 3.0, MSM078 Muddslide Carpet Muncher and TRITEP5000 Sticky Fingers. I think more than 80% are already using these compounds so it should be an easy transition. The main reason for the change is to get everyone using the same basic stuff so the track will come in better and stay more consistent.

I think that covers everything to get us started. I'll finalize the Winter Series schedule once a few more things fall into place and I'll get a thread started.

Less than two months until racing starts, let's get some chatter going on what everyone is planning on running!!

We put in for the 2011 carpet nats, too. If we get them, March will be a heck of a month!

Tim, BRL rules state the battery is an "SMC 25C spec pack" for the NASTruck class. Are we going by this, or can we use any 1 cell? Not to get anything started but I need to get one and don't want to get the wrong one.

As long as it is a BRL approved battery, it's good.

The big difference between the BRL rules and our weekly racing rules is the ESC. We are sticking to the Non-adjustable ESCs only because that's what everyone already has. The BRL is using the TOUR spec and running ROAR Sportsman ESCs in Sportsman Mode, no timing or boost.

If it 100% determined that the "Sportsman Profile" ESCs have no advantage over the Non-adjustable ESCs, we'll use the BRL rule. I just don't everyone in our largest class to have to buy a new ESC to compete.

Of course, if you run our BRL race, you will have to comply to the BRL rules. Best bet would be the SMC battery, then your legal either way.

Weber Motorsports cant get enough touring car so we will run:

17.5 Stock TC
25.5 VTA
21.5 RCGT

Unless a 4th touring car class emerges, I will probably run 12th scale just so my electronics don't sit idle.

What! No Mini! Well, that car probable don't want to come near the track after what it's been throuhg in the last year.
