Default drag racing??

Has or does anybody ever drag race around here. I was thinking it would be pretty cool. Or does anybody want to start a drag club, nitro and electric.

Cool, well we've got a 100mph nitro mustang. Also Dewey I thaught we could have crawler drags too. the way it would work is on go the first person to not fall asleep while racing wins. hahahaaha does any one else have an interest in this.

Cool

Unfortunately you are 18 years too late. Early 90's Bel Aire Hobbies had drag racing and monster truck can crushing in the parking lot outside of their Miracle Hills location on 114th.

I cant believe I was a part of that with my Kyosho Big Brute, before I took my 12 year break from the hobby.

My hpi Camaro drag car from early 2008. 10T Trinity brushed and 6x3300 GP NiMh. Ran best of 2.272sec at 55.8mph 1/10 scale 1/4 mile (132ft).

More than I could handle. Been racing electric rails since.

Hope you guys get into rc drag racing. It's real big here in Houston/San Antonio. I can provide links if you want.

hey maj,

Thanks for your interest and the question.

Both SA and HouTX use a full PortaTree syetem. .400 Pro Tree start. 132ft scale 1/4 mile. SA features Staging; 6ft; mid-track; speed and e.t. HouTX lacks the mid-track sensors.

As far as the electric/nitro question, I'll let some of the fast guys weigh in on that. I gave them the link. Me, I'm a sportsman electric racer. Index Classes. SuperComp and CompElim. 1.80sec index and 2.50sec indexes respectfully. The fast guys will fill you in RE: N vs E.

I'll throw in the Aussie link too, just for grins. Those mates go real hard.

Hope you guys put something together up there. Nothing better I'd like than to get out of the summer humidity down here and come north to race in the summer

Cheers. Keep the questions coming. We'll help you all we can.

Couple more links. MN is a little closer than Aus, so here is Paul's:

The left coast is also big. They just completed a ROAR national:

So lots of rc drag racing out there. Be great to have the Great Plains weigh in.

Dewey that car looks B/A. I would think so, but what do I know.

I cant believe that the drag tree and computer set up is upwards of 2-3k$
Wow I think we will do it by eye for a while. Just for fun.

Yeah, buddy. GMS DragSpec is a good start. I used a moded DS under my Camaro. AL motor plates and AL hubs. The F/G chassis plate on the DS is much more survivable than, say a CF plate. That's real important for both beginning and for bracket class. Mike (Ogle), aka MRO, will work with you on set-up too.

I'd recommend up-grading to the optional clamp-style aluminum hubs though. The nylons aren't all that durable above, say a 19T / 2cell Lipo app. GMS builds good stuff.

Urban Assault here in H-town builds a DD chassis, but it's more "Pro" level. Greg, 1badboo, can tell you more about it.

Yeah, I loved that Camaro body style. I'd still be racing it if my reflexes weren't so poor. SWB (short-wheelbase) and me don't get along. It's a 200mm body, so it'll kinda hangs all over the DS chassis. No biggie. A tip - don't cut the front bumper along the trim line. Let it extend all the way back to the front wheel well. That'll help keep the air from getting under it and 'kiting' it.

Good luck.

Yeah, everybody chokes on the price of a timing system.

H-town ran gorilla-style for a while too. Had a on-off start light and manual flagged the finish. Gotta start somewhere. Important thing is to establish a core group of racers, then build from there. It takes time and patience.

Good luck.
