Savage Conversion options
#1
Hello everyone, long time no post.
As probably no one remembers, I built a super built orange savage, bulletproof drivetrain, tvps, ecrm picco .28, ecrm side bleed pipe, everthing anodized orange, everything was done for bashing and power.
I asked a while ago about this, but I was trying to keep the nitro tvps since they are orange, but I'm over it, so new tvps are fine
Well after finishing the build, life got very busy, and only put 4ish gallons in it(basically broke in), and now after 2 years of not touching it, 2 kids, deciding to race. I am thinking about converting it to electric so I can enjoy it in my free time and not have to worry about all the maintenance and nitro stuff and actually use this built car. I am wanting to downsize from a 5 cars to 3 (d812,savage,e-lst,sct410, b5).
If I do this, I have two options, since I want to sell the lst.
Option 1: cheap option
Savage converted single speed transmission
Castle system 2200kv from e-lst
5mm xl chassis plates (haven't decided on brand yet)
Robinson racing slipper
Alza motor mounts
Alza servo plate
Plus random flux parts to support conversion
5s setup
Option 2:
Alza center diff
Alza xl tvps
Alza servo plate
Alza xl engine plate
XO-1 1717 (1580kv or 1650kv)
Castle mamba monster extreme (can it handle the 1717?)
Random flux parts to finish conversion
6s setup
Option 3:
Alza center diff
Alza xl tvps
Alza servo plate
Alza xl engine plate
Castle system from lst 2200kv
Random flux parts to finish conversion
5s setup
Which would you recommend? Why? Can the mamba monster extreme handle the 1717? Any other advice?

I would get the 5mm tvp, either from alza or flm. As well as a center diff. As far as the motor goes I would get a sensored motor because I think it is smoother than non-sensored. Examples are tekin 1550kv or 1700kv. ESC could be mamba monster x, rx8 or hobbywing sensored. All capable of handling sensored motors. It is a straight forward build really. The mamba monster extreme can handle the 1717 motor, many use that esc with low kv motors. There are many options for sensored low kv motors such as leopard and poseidon also.
If you are making an XL build, make it right or go home.

So the center diff is worth it then? I don't want to blow bevel gears like my lst.
Can I use one of my savage x bulletproof diffs with vorza spur? Would you recommend the 1717 over the castle 2200kv? Which kv 1717 would you recommend?
I am leaning towards the alza tvps, I wouldn't touch the stock tvps, bent those before.

I know you built it right hehe
. If you alreaddy have a built savage xl, then just get the center diff. I would go with a lower kv motor for lower temps and more torque. For bashing sensored is also nice I think, I do feel differance between sensored and sensorless. 2200kv on 6s gets very hot, mine does that and my truck weight 14.6lbs, so I need to have those custom cooling fans to keep temps in place. But I would like to have more torque as well. The only reason to get the castle 2200kv is for the new sensored motor and mamba monster x, otherwise I would recommend a tekin 1700kv.

Alza cd for sure it's worth every penny. Tcs crawlers makes really nice 5mm tvps I have the standard length and have no issues with them. The xl ones come in many different colors. I use the stock 2200 motor and esc that came with the savage flux I started with. The alza cd has completely eliminated my breaking of the pinion gear in the rear diff which I did a lot of. Btw alza parts quality is second to none. You wouldn't do wrong with their tvps either.

That's awesome, thank you for the feed back. I am going to try and run it in the next couple of weeks to see if I am still interested in it being nitro.
On a side note, can only get the 1650kv 1717, the others were counterfeit motors from china.
