LST2 Forward only Problem...
#1
anyone put a forward only in their truck? i've got a tranny that i put one in ages ago but it got shelved because it doesn't turn smoothly when everything's in place. well, it turns it just has a bit of resistance unlike the stock tranny that i think i've just stripped a gear in
i still have the 4 shims that came with it but i have no idea where to put them. individually all of the shafts and gears spin as they should but when i put them all in it's not fluid. has anyone else had this problem or know how i can fix it?
cheers

MY FOC trans spins smoothly and freely but it won't exactly keep spinning. What I would do is try to isolate where the problem is. Take the trans apart, take everything out and only reinstall the input and intermediate shafts and gears. Hold the case together by hand and give the input a spin. If there's a problem you know its with these gears. If not open it up, take out the input and try just the intermediate and the output.
Chances are the problem is with the intermediate and the output. When you installed the gold gear its possible the mesh with the output was altered. The gears for the output are bevel gears just like the diffs and can be shimmed the same way. You can alter the mesh with shims on the intermediate shaft, behind the pinion on the intermediate shaft or on the output shaft itself.

i had a problem not with mesh but with the case itself with teh gears rubbing. i cleaned it out real good and put only the input shaft in and held it tight together and spun it then took 180 grit sandpaper and an exacto and trimmed and sanded till there were no rub marks. then put the next shaft in and same thing had to sand and trim. lastly my output bevel gear.(the big one) i had to actualy sand the back side of it down because it was causing a bind on the smaller bevel gear. it took me a couple hours but in the end there is no resistance anymore in my tranny.
