8s setup?

What motors other than the 1717 and 2028 can handle 8s? I'm thinking of using the XL2 ESC but if there's a cheaper alternative that's just as good I'm down. As for the motor, I'm wondering about the leopard 4092 1480kv, can it handle 8s?

No no yet, I have a 35t spur coming, so that will give me 34/35 then I have one more setup for 36/35 which is taller than 1:1. I believe the flux torque setup will max between 110-112mph. Right now the fans don't say on very long after I bring the truck back to me, maybe 30-45sec. Temps are where they would be on a normal bash session. I'm looking to go bigger so I can reach 120mph

I've seen a few people try the cheaper XL2 alternatives but they seem to go up in smoke pretty quick. A guy here tried the Trackstar 8s in a Mad Force and it fried, the fighter cat esc's car versions had the same results but I haven followed them so could've gotten better. It's basically XL2 or a MGM.
From the specs I've been able to find the 4092 Leopard motors are 6s rated. But for speed runs I'd think it would be ok on 8s. I just wonder if they limited it to 6s because of rpm. I can't find any specs stating a max rpm, but 8s with 1480kv is about 49,000rpm on a fully charged pack.
If you're considering a 2028 there are the 56mm diameter Leopards that might save you a few bucks and are 8s compatible.

I think the 2028 would have to be geared really stupid tall in order to be manageable. 1717 size is probably going to be the most manageable in regards to more power than the 2200's. Who knows my chassis design may be good for 150mph but I don't have a road long enough or radio good for distances longer than 1200' each way. Right now I'm about 1050-1100' away at the start of the pull. Bigger motors means more room.
Here's a question, would two of the 1480kv leopards work well on my blurs ESCs with 6s and allow me to go faster than the 2200's?

The esc's will handle the 4092 1480kv Leopards just fine. The longer 1480kv motors will have more torque than the current 2200kv motors. Whether you'll end up any faster depends on how well you put the power down and how much the drop in rpm effects how you can gear the truck.
Idk how it's going to be trying to put down the power of a 2028 or equivalent but it will have to be geared stupid high. Maybe not to make the power manageable but also because of the lower kv. On 8s the 750kv 2028 is going to be only 25200rpm compared to the 55000rpm of the 2200kv on 6s. If you do decide to go 8s with one big motor Leopard does have higher kv's availible in their 56mm diameter 1/5 scale motors.

So would one 2028 or equivalent on 8s or 10s be better than two 1480kv motors on 8s each?
Thing is I want to go faster but cheaper. I know that's like an oxymoron but I know it's do able. I kinda doubt one 1717 or 1480kv motor could push me to 110mph, but idk

I know there was a guy with an Emaxx that ran over 100mph with a single Neu 1527. I believe that was on 6s but I'm not 100% sure. A Leopard 4092 1480kv doesn't make the same power as a Nue 1527, but the Leopard 4092 and 1717 are pretty even performance wise.
I think the dual 1480kv on 6s will give the most bang for buck out of all the options. Would also be the least amount of work to the truck to fit them in, the only question would be gearing. I think you'll hit a wall around 115mph (best guess) unless you step up to 8s and a bigger motor though.

Im thinking of grabbing 1 castle 2028 and running it on 8s paired to the XL2 esc.
Is there an esc that can handle 12s paired to the 2028?
After watching a baja go 90mph on 8s I think a single 2028 on 8s may be the route to go, as my truck weighs an easy 10lbs less

My flux lost MPH when I switched to the 1717, using the same voltage and same gearing. Granted it has insane power now, but the top speed is definitely not the same.
My 1717 will pull 25/44 gearing with the high speed idler like it's free spinning. The motor is barely warm after a full battery pack of bashing through thick grass, dirt and speed runs/backflips on asphalt.

Sure, that speaks for itself. You won't be utilizing the power for speed, if not gearing up.
The 1515 simply doesn't have the power to propel the Savage to the same high speed as the 1717. Gearing is no problem.
