Default decision between these three

alright guys im down to these three and these three only. The mgt 8.0, lst xxl, and revo 3.3. I pretty much just do backyard bashing jumping terraces and stuff. me and my brother ocasionally go to dirt roads and woods and stuff with a little rougher. Im really not sure about the xxl since it has been discontinued, im worried about the parts support for it. I really like the mgt because of size and power but not so sure I woud like all the wheelie power LOL! I mean i like speed but i want the front tires to stay mainly on the ground i mean i like wheeling but when i want to not every time i pull the trigger. The revo wel im just not sure about that one it may be more for racing than my type, I already have a brushless vxl 2wd slash so if i want to do more racing type stuff i have it. so help me out Im stuck on which to pull the trigger on!

i would choose the revo, it is in no way a "race car" though.

PM sent also.

The Revo would be last on my list - well not even on it really.. I don't like Traxxas' business model of selling overpriced RTR's which need upgrades to boot, not to mention that the 3.3 is a notoriously PIA engine.

From the other two, both are good, though the Losi would be better IMO. The MGT might need some shock-part upgrades, from what I hear. The Losi is notoriously strong and fast. IF you plan to get big air, I would try to find a New Era roll-bar to firm up the chassis.. Re Losi parts support, that's kind of up in the air. I have two LST2's, and a fair bit of parts, but it seems to me parts are still out there, and will be for a while. For all we know Losi will rerelease some form of LST at the Nürnberg toy fair next month.. But yeah, there's some uncertainty there. Nevertheless, if I were in the market for a new MT, being honest, yeah I guess it'd be kind of hard.. I'd probably be looking at a Savage too..

When in doubt, go with your gut..

XXL: no fun to work on...that chassis is a pain
Revo: Awesome fun RC to drive anywhere...by no means a racer. It's "slung low" for handling purposes, but it will take anything.
MGT 8.0: If you're worried about parts (locally) this would be lats on my list. A bit of a rarity unless you have a really large inventory at your LHS.

Have you considered the Muggy?

If I was to pick from your list...it would be the Revo all day...but I'd go brushless.

As far as parts go at my lhs 95% is traxxas so if i get anything other than traxxas I will be having to order parts anyway which i dont mind. thats why the mgt and the xxl were really my two choices but with the xxl being discontinued i wasnt sure about parts support. As for the mgt i dont think it is discontinued and should be able to find plenty of parts online for a long time. I havent looked at anything other than MTs cause mt main place to run is grass and i kinda wanted the clearance, so not sure how a truggy would be in those conditions. I am really wanting something 1/8 scale because my slash is 1/10 and i just want something different.

well for the savage i was talking to the guy at my lhs other day and he was telling me the savage was a pain to work on he said just to change a spur gear the motor had to come off! Im not really wanting to spend 3 hours just to change a gear. now with the others i know i may have to wait three days to get parts after ordering but after waiting that long to recieve them i dont want to spend half the day putting them on.

All MT's are a pain to work on compared to a truggy/buggy platform. If you want an MT that's just part of the deal. As far wanting parts locally obviously buy what your LHS supports the most if you can't wait for online parts.

First lesson of RC: what LHS employees tell you is based on what they have to sell you. I.e. forget it(for the most part).

For a basic basher MT, the Savage has to be pretty high up there. I much prefer my LST2's to Savages, but yeah, with the XXL discontinued I have to rearrange my preferences re what's available.

MGT, Savage, XXL - get whichever floats your boat. They're all good.

I'm very happy with my Revo. Having local parts readily available can be a very nice thing when you don't feel like waiting for mail order stuff to arrive.

I have the MGT 8.0 and the Savage X, had an XL 5.9 and the Revo, they all have their pros and cons or their strengths and weaknesses, you can wheelie all of them if u want or tune the wheelie out with a good radio, IMO the most powerful is the MGT 8.0, especially with engine mods, it also handles pretty well with factory shocks, not as well as the revo, and savage X the worst handling stock, the MGT has the largest motor, but power to weight the revo does well, but the MGT eats revos for dinner all day, with videos to prove. If u want a basher the all have their bashing abilities, you will hear one is more durable than the other from any of the above models but bottom line is ur gonna break something, the MGT is setup great from the factory, a breeze to work on, savage not so much for a newbie, revo is easy also, just quality isnt to par with the MGT, i got the MGT because everyone had Revos and savages i wanted to be that "whoa what is that" guy, different in other words and well i would sell everything i owned but,the MGT... thats just my .02 no experience w the losi other than, guys pull the nitro stuff and convert to brushless, also hard to work on i hear, and underpowered comparatively.

The latest savage trucks have become alot easier overal to work on, the spur gear doesnt require the motor to be removed, but does require you removing the air filter... big woop

Only really difficult part to work on in the savage is the brakes, everything else can be accessed fairly simply. It does tend to catch a hell of a lot of dirt in areas that are damn hard to clean, but any nitro is gonna get filthy.

Any reason you're dead set on nitro? For around the same price of the mentioned trucks you could pick up a Thunder Tiger M4 G3, which handle better than anything mentioned on this thread so far and equally as durable. I love my savages now, but they were an absolute nightmare when I was a noob.

Why would you recommend a flashlight to somebody who says he wants a nitro??.. How would it be received if I went into a thread where someone was asking for a flashlight and said "You sure you don't want a nitro? They really are better..." Or is the OP a child(like certain other demographic blocks in RC.....), and maybe doesn't really know what he wants? Maybe he should get an RC submarine?... Or take up basket weaving...

My MT4 G3 is currently filthy after running on some wet dirt paths...

As for the Savage brakes, just spray some brake cleaner up in there..

Out of the three the revo would be last on my list and to compare it to a xxl and say its better is nuts to me. If it were me Id go with the xxl as there is still tons of parts available and will be for a very long time the xxl is one of the absolute toughest trucks you can get. Its big fast mean easy as all heck to tune and keep tuned and its also easy to work on. The platform is one of the simplest designs to work on the only tricky part is when you want to change out your steering servos but who changes them all the time? Id def go with the xxl but I may also be a bit biased to the losi lst line of trucks having 13 of them myself alot of guys will say the muggy is the ultimate basher but trying to find parts for a muggy is near impossible so stick with a xxl and you wont regret it
