XTM Mammoth ST thread
i dont know if there is already a thread about this truck, but i guess i will start one.
i just read a review on this truck in a mag, it looks awesome. i have been wanting a monster truck for some time now, however i like the truggies more because they are the new "thing" now, and i have a bunch of .21s for my buggies. the mammoth st looks like an amazing truggy for the price, $339 USD. comes with 24.7 pullstart engine, 2 speed for a top speed of 50mph, threaded shocks, 4 chassis braces(2 fore, 2 aft), universals, rear sway bar, front bumper/skid, decent radio(for an RTR), high torque steering servo(195oz), the list goes on and on. so if anyone has one or more info on it, please share. thanks :D |
Here is a video of that truggy LOOKS NICE! ! mammoth ST

wow, that thing is killer off the line!! although it seems to be slower on the turns, but thats probably because of a bad steering servo.

Mammoth ST
Quality control on the kit seems quite high. The St is alot bigger than I expected it to be I can't wait to break-in the motor. This truggy looks like it is going to be a woolie mammoth.
|
they say that the throttle servo is a little weak, beware when braking. does it come with rechargable receiver battery?
|
No it does not come with a rechargable battery pack. And yes the throttle servo does look weak. Thanks for the tip.

Mammoth St
When I set my Truckzilla side by side to the Mammoth the first thing I noticed was the Mammoth St is longer and the Mammoth St center of gravity is lower also. The Mammoth schould be able to carry more speed into the turns than the Truckzilla. I hope I get to test it out this weekend.
|
the mammoth should be a much better racer than the zilla. if you can, try to find some stiffer springs for the front, they're a little mushy for the jumps.

Mammoth ST
Thanks for the tip about the springs !! I am sitting here at my computer with another broken ankle, Doc told me to stay off my foot for at least a week and my wife is watching me like a hawk!! Arrrhhhhhh! I want to runn my truck!!
|
also on the st try running 45 wt oil all the way around on shocks. the rear oil is way to heavy for any track use.
|
Thanks for the tip!! :)
|
another tip( :D ), make sure to threadlock all metal-to-metal components on the truck. i read a review on the mammoth st in a magazine, and they said that the engine mount screws, the axle set screws, and the axle cup set screws had not been threadlocked. the magazine mentioned that the truck nearly shook itself apart because the factory skimped on threadlock, so they gave the truck a 7 for parts quality/finish. you dont want to be looking for an axle pin with a broken ankle(even with your wife watching! )

I always disassemble and locktite everything down on my rtr's. I read that article too, I was amazed at the speed it was clocked at almost 50 mph!! Wow!!
