One other thing I noticed is excessive chassis flex at the rear of the vehicle. The front seems fine, but I think a different rear brace setup is in order. If I get a chance, I'll share my findings from next week.
but doesn't that thing have dual chassis braces front and rear?

nitrohead5300 08-02-2005 05:29 AM

It does have a short brace in the back

Not sure why the mags didn't point this out, they are all saying the servo is made by Cirrus (which it may be, but then, they would also be producing the Blue Birds).

.................................................. .....I replaced it with a JR DS8611 servo rated at 260 oz of torque. The steering is not mushy now!!

So, I ordered a new throttle servo and decided to replace the steering servo as well. I ordered some Blue Birds out of curiosity (and maybe stupidity too :). I got the 630MG for steering and the 621MG for the throttle. As I thought, the steering servo is already a 630MG, so now I have an extra. The new throttle servo will definitely be better. I made a couple steering mods that eliminated a little bit of slop at the expense of durability, or so it seems. I'll test it out this weekend. If it performs better maybe I'll post about the mod.

Steering mod testing went well. This is a fast truck, but I need to get used to handling such a big vehicle. Steering was vastly improved with the little mod. I'll try to get some pics up this weekend. No more brake problems either. The new throttle servo is fast and strong, brakes are excellent now. I will be focusing on better driving in the future :).

I saw another guy at the track who goes by the name Racer9. His ST looked dialed, he was very fast around the track with just replacing the servos. He also had some shiny aluminum A-Arms from Big Air (I think that was the name). Looked cool.

I'm looking forward to tuning this monster on the track. Should be fun.

so, it sounds as if this truck does have some potential with new servos. i hear that the steering has a bit of play in it, is this true? probably can be fixed with some shimming if so.

I wont buy Blue Birds again!!!!

macnkitty2002 08-15-2005 11:59 AM

looks great. what kind of crowd pleazer body is that for, maxx, mgt, or revo?
also, could you get a shot of how you mounted the wing?

nitrohead5300 08-15-2005 05:16 PM

XTM Mammoth ST

It is a crowd pleazer body for a MGT. Using 4 long screws just mount the GS wings supports thru the rear shock mounts into the rear gear box cover then secure with locknuts. .......... Here are some pictures.http://pic15.picturetrail.com/VOL595.../108610207.jpg

macnkitty2002 08-16-2005 02:01 PM

Mammoth ST

Well I blew my engine this weekend. I guess I should not say that because it is misleading, I wore out the connecting rod the bushing was egg shaped. The XTM 24.7 survived longer than I expected it too considering I did not break it in!! I had another big block put back a Sirio .30. XTM's are not bad motors for the price I may consider buy a few more to modify & bash with.
